About this centre

The centre has been serving the local community since 2005. Students meet in the main hall of All Saints Church Hall, which is towards the rear of the building, providing a quiet study area for students to work at a pace that is tailored to their individual needs.

The Kumon Maths and English Study Programmes offer what traditional tuition gives to your child and more. Kumon goes one step further by helping each child develop self-learning skills, enabling them to tackle challenging work without reliance on a teacher. Our aim is to help any child of any ability to progress and develop a curiosity and love for learning.

Your local Instructor will set work for your child at just the right level, enabling them to build confidence in their abilities and progress their maths and English skills in small, manageable steps through daily study. They will visit their local study centre up to twice a week for sessions with their Instructor. This allows the Instructor to tailor and adapt each child’s study plan to their abilities, through observing their progress and fluency at each level. Our study programmes are individualised to each child to help them establish strong learning foundations and a positive learning experience, to build skills and confidence for their future.

My name is Csilla Buck and I am the Instructor at the Douglas, Isle of Man Study Centre. I come from Hungary and have been living in the British Isles for nearly two decades. I moved to the Isle of Man in July 2000. My background is in computer programming, which I loved as it involved solving logical problems. My hobbies are reading, badminton, running, family football and studying.

I have a lot of enthusiasm for mathematics, and it makes me sad that so many people dislike it. Maths is one of those subjects where you need to learn the basics and then build on them. Without the basics you can't learn higher-level maths. This is why I love Kumon. From the moment I heard about it, I wanted to be an Instructor. I want to make a difference in children's lives; I want them to like maths.

Since I started the centre, I have already seen Kumon work. Children gain confidence and become happier at school. Maths may even become their favourite subject! I also feel passionate about languages and their correct usage. I have seen children gain confidence in reading and writing with the Kumon English programme and develop a desire to read books in their spare time.
