About this centre

The centre was founded in 1995 and has since been offering maths and English programmes for children in the local area and further afield. After originally operating from community centres and a church hall, the East Dulwich Study Centre recently moved to a high-street location, becoming Kumon's very first permanent premises in London.

Students have a wide variety of choice on which day(s) to attend class. Parents and younger siblings can relax with films, toys, tea and coffee whilst they wait.

We have 15 class assistants and on each class day, there are at least five present in the main class and two in the early learner zone. There are separate classrooms for the early learners and independent learners and classes are held in a quiet atmosphere.

The unique Kumon Maths and English Programmes pursue the potential of each child by developing confident, independent learners through individualised advanced study.

Unlike the process of a traditional tuition provider, Kumon encourages students to take their learning into their own hands. The role of the Kumon Instructor is to provide guidance, support and encouragement, allowing the student to develop their own independent learning strategies.

Hello, my name is Victoria.

I took over the East Dulwich Study Centre in January 2008. As a person, I am a great lover of children. My love for children and the desire to see them achieve their utmost in life were the main factors that made me consider being an Instructor. I saw it as an opportunity to contribute positively to the nurturing of the future generation.

As a Kumon Instructor, I feel very fulfilled when I see students go through the whole journey right from the foundation level through to the point where they have acquired the skills needed for analytical thinking. It is a great privilege to see students set themselves targets to complete the programme and an even greater thrill when one is able to partner with them to do so.

It is therefore my hope that each child entrusted to our care will fully develop in every area of their academic life, attain the highest level of their aspirations, gain confidence and self-esteem and grow up to be a man and woman of influence in society.

Every journey has its own challenges so does the Kumon journey. However, with perseverance and determination, success crowns all the effort.
