The Kumon East Sheen Study Centre is conveniently located in the Richmond Room within Thompson House School, a bright and warm environment, conducive for learning.
The centre is situated very close to Mortlake Station with local amenities on Sheen Lane, including the local library with its excellent selection of children’s books.
The centre caters for children from as young as two, all the way through to those studying A-levels, and includes children finding maths and/or English challenging at school, as well as those wanting to be stretched and those for whom English is an additional language.
The Instructor, Olivia Hannah, and the assistants oversee students as they complete their classwork and it is their role to support each student’s academic development alongside their study skills, posture and stamina.
The unique Kumon Maths and English Programmes pursue the potential of each child by developing confident, independent learners through individualised, advanced study.
Kumon should not be considered a traditional tuition provider as, rather than ‘teaching’ students, we encourage them to become independent learners who feel confident in their own abilities and able to face unfamiliar work.
My name is Olivia Hannah and I am the Instructor at the East Sheen Study Centre.
My life as an educator began teaching English as a foreign language in South Korea, before qualifying as a primary teacher in 2006. Later I moved into a special educational setting where I taught children with moderate to severe social, emotional and behavioural difficulties, and in 2010, I moved to Mauritius with my husband, where I enjoyed working in a beautiful international primary school.
During my time as a teacher I became fascinated about the way in which children’s minds develop and learn and loved witnessing that light bulb moment when a student suddenly gets it!
My own Kumon journey began many years ago when I was hired as a class assistant. I quickly realised how superior a learning method Kumon is and loved watching the children as they developed into confident individuals, happy to face any challenge.
Kumon came back into my life when I decided to become an Instructor. Not only does it tie in with my passion for education, my interest in helping children learn and more importantly helping them to be able to learn for themselves, but also my enjoyment of working with children.
