Farnham Study Centre

About this centre

The centre was established in January 2015.

Students receive a free assessment before embarking on a personalised programme of study. Kumon is suitable for students of all ages and ability. Most students attend class once a week and will usually stay in the class for about 30 to 45 minutes.

The centre is led by the Instructor, Disha Lonergan, who is aided by trained assistants who support the development of students by listening to them read or checking classwork and guiding them until they can work independently.

In class, worksheet study is complemented by number board activities where appropriate. There is also a reading corner with a selection of books from various levels in the Kumon Recommended Reading List.

Kumon should not be considered a traditional tuition provider as, rather than ‘teaching’ students, we encourage them to become independent learners who feel confident in their own abilities and able to face unfamiliar work.

The unique Kumon maths and English Programmes pursue the potential of each child by developing confident, independent learners through individualised, advanced study.

Hello, my name is Disha and I have been a Kumon Instructor since 2014.

I am an English Literature graduate and have a background in teaching in a range of settings.

Having left mainstream teaching to raise my own children, a role which I find most rewarding, I combined being a parent with registering with Ofsted as a Childminder. I have cared for a number of children aged one to six, and was graded ‘Good’ by Ofsted in my inspection. I enjoyed planning activities for children which also promoted their development in line with the early year’s framework.

I am excited about being the Instructor of the study centre in Farnham and bringing the Kumon Method of Learning to children in the area. As a parent and Instructor, I have seen children achieve so much through following the Kumon study programmes – it is immensely satisfying to see a child tackle a new problem and feel proud that they have solved it through independent thinking. Whether a child is studying maths, English or both subjects, they can become confident self-learners with the guidance that I can provide at the Kumon Farnham Study Centre.

I look forward to welcoming you to our study centre.
