The Kumon Fleet Study Centre is situated in a familiar learning environment for many: All Saints Junior School which is a good location for children to develop.
The centre opened at the beginning of 2013 and welcomes students of all ages and abilities to follow the Kumon Maths and English Programmes. Currently, we have students aged between four and 15 years old, studying at the centre.
Many of the students come to us because they find maths and/or English at school challenging, others are looking to be stretched, and for some English is their second language.
Overseen by Instructor Juliet, there is a team of seven friendly class assistants who provide a supportive environment to enable students to develop academically as well as their self-learning skills. The team includes both committed students and graduates. One staff member solely focuses on the development of our early learners, who have their own study area.
Through daily study, both at the study centre and independently at home, Kumon goes further than traditional methods of tuition by ensuring students maintain a level of development every day.
The unique Kumon Maths and English Programmes pursue the potential of each child by developing independent, confident learners through individualised, advanced study.
My name is Juliet Worthington and I have been a Kumon Instructor since the start of 2013. It is a role that I thoroughly enjoy, as I love working with children and helping them to learn. I find it very fulfilling and fascinating working with many children to help them develop their skills at their own pace.
I have always been involved in children’s development from voluntary reading sessions and maths classes at the junior school which my own children attended. I have been an accountant for the last few years along with teaching piano.
I was very impressed by the Kumon Method of Learning and I decided to train to open a centre of my own to contribute to the local community by giving children the opportunity to achieve good study skills and improve their English and maths with the Kumon programmes.
My observations and experience convinced me of the power of practical learning principles, such as building a solid foundation, giving praise and encouragement and having sufficient practice and repetition. That, coupled with the knowledge and enjoyment gained from my Mathematics degree, directed me into becoming a Kumon Instructor.
