The centre has been running successfully since 2003. Students attend the centre on a regular basis, coming from a variety of locations within the Herne Hill area.

The Kumon Maths and English Study Programmes offer what traditional tuition gives to your child and more. Kumon goes one step further by helping each child develop self-learning skills, enabling them to tackle challenging work without reliance on a teacher. Our aim is to help any child of any ability to progress and develop a curiosity and love for learning.

Your local Instructor will set work for your child at just the right level, enabling them to build confidence in their abilities and progress their maths and English skills in small, manageable steps through daily study. They will visit their local study centre up to twice a week for sessions with their Instructor. This allows the Instructor to tailor and adapt each child’s study plan to their abilities, through observing their progress and fluency at each level. Our study programmes are individualised to each child to help them establish strong learning foundations and a positive learning experience, to build skills and confidence for their future.

My name is Carl Vandal and I am the Instructor at the centre.

Prior to becoming a Kumon Instructor, I spent over 20 years as a secondary school mathematics teacher. Throughout my time as a teacher it was my firm belief, and still is my belief, that all students have the potential to be successful and the route to that success is through fostering the ability to be an independent learner.

My interest in the Kumon programmes was initially roused when I first met a Kumon Instructor in my local area. His description of the programmes and how they worked peeked my curiosity. After further investigation, I developed an appreciation of the Kumon programmes and the Kumon Method of Learning.

While at the centre, students are seen and graded by an experienced assistant who provides me with a brief report on the progress made by the students, enabling me to accurately set work for the students. This allows me to ensure that all students attending the centre are guided through the programmes, to set goals and targets for each individual, enabling them to take ownership of their own learning and to develop a love of learning.

I look forward to welcoming your child to my centre.
