About this centre

The centre provides maths and English programmes for students of all ages and abilities and has been providing a valuable service for the local community since 2002.

Currently, the youngest student is three years old and the oldest is 18. The centre has a friendly but studious atmosphere and there are a team of dedicated assistants on hand to assist students when required.

A number of motivational items are used such as stickers, certificates, prizes and medals. Feedback is given to students each week with praise, encouragement and guidance and feedback is also communicated with parents by phone, email or briefly at class.

The unique Kumon Maths and English Programmes pursue the potential of each child by developing confident, independent learners through individualised, advanced study.

Unlike the process of a traditional tuition provider, Kumon encourages students to take their learning into their own hands. The role of the Kumon Instructor is to provide guidance, support and encouragement, allowing the student to develop their own independent learning strategies.

My name is Carol Brenner and I have been Instructor at the Islington Study Centre since 2002.

I have a degree in mathematics, and worked in IT for many years, firstly as a programmer, then as a business analyst and project manager. I decided to become a Kumon Instructor as I was looking for a career that allowed me to work for myself, whilst enabling me to do maths on a regular basis, as I love maths; Kumon fitted the bill perfectly.

All three of my children studied Kumon when they were younger, so I have seen first-hand the benefits of long-term Kumon study.

Being an Instructor is very rewarding as I constantly see my students developing their maths and English skills to their full potential, as well as seeing them grow and mature, and becoming true self-learners.

I am constantly learning from my students and regularly updating my own skills by frequently attending conferences, workshops and study groups with fellow Kumon Instructors. I have received awards for nurturing students through to completion of the programmes, as well as long-service awards which celebrate the commitment I dedicate to my centre.

If you would like to give your child a head-start in life, contact me for more information and to make an appointment for an assessment.
