About this centre

The Kumon Maths and English Study Programmes offer what traditional tuition gives to your child and more. Kumon goes one step further by helping each child develop self-learning skills, enabling them to tackle challenging work without reliance on a teacher. Our aim is to help any child of any ability to progress and develop a curiosity and love for learning.

Your local Instructor will set work for your child at just the right level, enabling them to build confidence in their abilities and progress their maths and English skills in small, manageable steps through daily study. They will visit their local study centre twice a week for sessions with their Instructor. This allows the Instructor to tailor and adapt each child’s study plan to their abilities, through observing their progress and fluency at each level. Our study programmes are individualised to each child to help them establish strong learning foundations and a positive learning experience, to build skills and confidence for their future.

My name is Andy Newman and I am proud to be the Instructor at the Kirk Ella Study Centre. Since the centre opened, it has grown rapidly, and now has a wonderful group of dedicated students, parents and staff.

I became interested in the Kumon Method whilst looking for ways to support and develop my three children aged five, ten and 12. Kumon appealed to me because it allows children to reach their full potential and to work at a ‘just right’ level that would give them independence and confidence.

Since graduating in 1996, I have always worked with young people in a wide variety of contexts, but finding ways to help them foster their own self-belief and independence has been at the core of my aspirations.

Personal development along the way is part of education, and working at management level, specialising in maths, realising a passion for developing a love of reading, working as a marker on assessments as well as taking part in international projects, have all added to a wider understanding of how I can support young people on their own personal journeys.

It is a wonderful opportunity to support young people whilst continually learning and developing through ongoing training and learning from each individual I support along the way.

I look forward to welcoming you to the centre where you can experience the possibilities for yourselves.
