About this centre

Welcome to the Kumon Marlborough Study Centre.

The unique Kumon Maths and English Programmes pursue the potential of each child by developing confident, independent learners through individualised, advanced study.

There are currently five class assistants at the centre, who know the Kumon programmes themselves either as parents of children enrolled in the programme or as students who have benefited from studying the Kumon programmes. They bring with them a range of important skills and knowledge of the programme to support the students’ development.

There is a range of books at the centre that students can read to complement their worksheet study. The centre also has the facilities to cater to younger students and the assistants help nurture their study and independent learning skills within the centre.

Similar to other tuition providers the Kumon programmes focus on essential academic skills, but we go one step further by developing a child’s independent study skills, needed for school, university, employment and other aspects of adult life.

My name is April Nobes and I have been the Instructor at the Marlborough study centre since 2013.

I was motivated to become a Kumon instructor after enrolling my son and experiencing the benefits of his participation in the maths programme. He was very pleased to be one of the few students in his year 9 maths class who felt confident and could perform mental maths without sweating.

After becoming an instructor, I studied the maths worksheets both to improve my maths and to experience the programme first hand. I know what 30 minutes of study each day feels like in practise, what new topics look like from the perspective of a beginner, and how satisfying it is to understand and be able to work with numbers in new ways.

I love working hard to tailor the programme to meet each student’s needs and abilities and I derive satisfaction from making the programme work for each individual family. I believe that the programme works if students and parents apply and commit themselves to it.
