About this centre

The centre was established in 2000, and some students there have been studying Kumon for over five years. Students come from all areas surrounding Mirfield, including Kirkburton, Dalton, Dewsbury and Batley.

The age range of students at the centre is currently from four to 16 years, although there have been a few adults over the years and Kumon caters for all ages and abilities. The unique Kumon Maths and English Programmes pursue the potential of each child by developing confident, independent learners through individualised, advanced study.

Unlike the process of a traditional tuition provider, Kumon encourages students to take their learning into their own hands. The role of the Kumon Instructor is to provide guidance, support and encouragement, allowing the student to develop their own independent learning strategies.

Parents of very young children must wait in the centre, and all students must be met in the building before they may leave.

My name is Barbara Cooper and I am the Kumon Instructor for the Mirfield Study Centre. I have worked in Education for nearly 20 years.

As well as being a Kumon Instructor I am also a Kumon parent having three children all doing English and Maths. I know the hopes that we as parents have for our children and understand how Kumon can help them achieve these. I also am fully aware of the difficulties we face as parents when trying to motivate our children.

When we meet, I will reassure you that your children will be in good hands when they enrol with me.

I look forward to working together.
