Kumon has been in Salisbury for more than 15 years and offers maths and English programmes to students of all ages and abilities.
Current students at the study centre are aged between four and 18 years old. The centre has four assistants who work alongside Andy, the Instructor, to support the students’ development.
Kumon should not be considered a traditional tuition provider as, rather than ‘teaching’ students, we encourage them to become independent learners who feel confident in their own abilities and able to face unfamiliar work.
The unique Kumon Maths and English Programmes pursue the potential of each child by developing confident, independent learners through individualised, advanced study.
Having worked at a senior level in the IT industry for many years, I had sadly noted a gradual decline in proficiency in some of the written communication and basic numeracy skills of many younger colleagues.
I knew I wanted to play a small part in improving this situation and, ready for a career change after 25 years in the industry, I began to look at teaching. As a parent of two sons, I had always enjoyed facilitating their learning and watching as each small step lead onto the next, so, knowing I could make a difference, I enrolled to complete my PGCE and teach in the classroom.
It was almost at this same time that the opportunity to re-open the Salisbury Study Centre arose and I chose to become a Kumon Instructor. The maths and English results that Kumon study can help achieve, as well as the emphasis the programme places on developing independent learning were both compelling to me.
I look forward to working with you to support your child's progression, to nurture their ability to learn and to enable them to meet their true potential.
