The unique Kumon Maths and English Programmes pursue the potential of each child by developing confident, independent learners through individualised, advanced study.

Students of all ages and abilities can benefit from the Kumon Maths and English Study Programmes. Similar to other tuition providers their maths and English abilities will improve but they will additionally develop the study skills, confidence and can-do attitude vital to success.

We currently support pre-school, primary and secondary school aged students, and students beyond school age. However, it doesn't matter how old you are, as Kumon work is tailored to each individual.

Students can attend the centre up to twice a week, for around 30-40 minutes per subject, here they will be introduced to new concepts and supplementary activities to support their homework which is completed daily.

Younger students on the early levels of either the maths or English programme will be supported by, and work with specially trained staff. Gradually, as they become more independent, these students will work on their own to develop self-study skills similar to their older peers.

Unlike the process of a traditional tuition provider, Kumon encourages students to take their learning into their own hands. The role of the Kumon Instructor is to provide guidance, support and encouragement, allowing the student to develop their own independent learning strategies.

My Name is Lisa Sheldon I have been the Instructor for the Stourbridge Study Centre since 2010.

I was a Police Officer for 18 years specialising in child protection before retiring on medical grounds. Initially I started working as a class assistant here at the Stourbridge Study Centre, when my own daughter started her Kumon journey. Over time I started to see her grow in confidence and her maths ability strengthened each day. She is now working above her school age.

I love being a Kumon Instructor knowing that I am helping local children learn valuable life skills as well as improving their academic ability and more importantly to believe in themselves.

As well as myself I have team of handpicked classroom assistants who are all gifted and talented in either maths or English or have/are studying very advanced levels within the Kumon maths and English programmes.

My adult assistants work with our Reception and infant aged students on their mental arithmetic skills and reading. By having a multifaceted range of assistants, it helps the students to be mentored by a team of high achieving individuals.
