About this centre

The Kumon Maths and English Study Programmes offer what traditional tuition gives to your child and more. Kumon goes one step further by helping each child develop self-learning skills, enabling them to tackle challenging work without reliance on a teacher. Our aim is to help any child of any ability to progress and develop a curiosity and love for learning.

Your local Instructor will set work for your child at just the right level, enabling them to build confidence in their abilities and progress their maths and English skills in small, manageable steps through daily study. They will visit their local study centre up to twice a week for sessions with their Instructor. This allows the Instructor to tailor and adapt each child’s study plan to their abilities, through observing their progress and fluency at each level. Our study programmes are individualised to each child to help them establish strong learning foundations and a positive learning experience, to build skills and confidence for their future.

My name is Mayumi Lewis.

I began my training in 1984 in Osaka, Japan. This is where Kumon founder Toru Kumon started Kumon and I was privileged to meet him. He greatly inspired me with his passionate belief in education and value of the Kumon Method.

In 1984, I opened my Kumon centre in London. I have three adult daughters who started Kumon maths, English and Japanese shortly after they were born. I was soon impressed by Kumon’s improvement of young learners’ study habits, self-learning skills and ability to handle a large workload. I welcomed babies and toddlers to my early learning class and had four youngsters who reached maths equation levels at age six. I quickly recognised the importance of long-term learning in Kumon.

In 2009 I was awarded for the highest UK centre number of English completers that year and in 2010 for 25 years’ service, nurturing many high-level students and completers.

I look forward to meeting you and growing the Kumon Swindon West Study Centre. It will always be my aim to support your children’s development and maximise their potential.
