About this centre

Online Class available KUMON CONNECT available In-Centre Class available

The centre welcomes children of all ages and abilities, and has been at the heart of the community for over ten years. Local schools are within close proximity, giving children the flexibility to attend Kumon immediately after their school day.

As well as the Instructor, the centre has two assistants who have been trained to support the development of the children participating on one or both of the Kumon Maths and English Programmes. Newly enrolled students are also closely monitored to ensure that they too acquire the study skills and self-assurance to go on to become confident, independent learners.

Kumon students attend the centre at least once a week so that the Instructor and the assistants can observe the children at work, monitor their progress and allocate new daily work. Once the children have completed a topic in English and maths, they will be set an achievement test at the centre to ensure they have mastered the work and are able to move on.

The unique Kumon Maths and English Programmes pursue the potential of each child by developing confident, independent learners through individualised, advanced study. The role of the Kumon Instructor is to provide guidance, support and encouragement, allowing the student to develop their own independent learning strategies.

About the Instructor

My name is Carmen Garcia and I am the Kumon Instructor at the Wimbledon Study Centre.

I first decided to train as a Kumon Instructor after experiencing first-hand the benefits of the programme as a Kumon parent. I developed an interest in education and over the last few years I have been working at a local school supporting children with difficulties in literacy and mathematics. I have found that there is nothing more rewarding than seeing a child develop and achieve previously unattainable targets. I studied mathematics to A-level standard and truly believe that with practice and improved confidence, everyone can develop a love and an enthusiasm for mathematics.

Together with my assistants, my goal for the Wimbledon Study Centre is to provide a happy and supportive environment where the children feel motivated and inspired to learn. Through your children’s achievements in Kumon, I hope to develop self-driven, confident individuals with a passion for learning. I believe these key skills will support your children in all aspects of their lives.

I look forward to supporting your children through their Kumon journey so that they can learn to work independently and grow in confidence.

Popular Questions

Kumon is a self-learning programme with each student receiving regular support from their Instructor. The carefully developed worksheets teach students how to find the answer for themselves, whilst their Instructor offers guidance when necessary. The key role of each Kumon Instructor is to observe their students working, either in the centre or their online class, making sure that work is set at the right level and that they are developing at the right pace.

Students can start learning with Kumon from age two upwards. We currently have students as young as two years old studying with us, ranging all the way up to those about to go to university; Kumon helps children of any age and any ability. The sooner children begin, the earlier they can start developing skills to gain the greatest cumulative benefit; as soon as you feel your family is ready to make the commitment to long-term study, Kumon will be ready to help you achieve your goal.

Kumon offers much more than tutoring and differs from traditional teaching in the classroom. Rather than preparing children for a particular test or assessment, Kumon empowers students to learn for themselves, through individualised instruction and carefully developed worksheets.

As well as developing key skills in maths and English, each Kumon student will work towards building their independent learning skills and confidence in their own abilities. This means that a Kumon student will not be dependent on – or limited by – the skills and knowledge of others.

As a global programme, Kumon does not follow a school curriculum, but rather is complementary to curricula across the world. The primary aim of the Kumon Method is to develop independent learning skills. These independent learning skills enhance the students’ performance right across the school curriculum. Kumon operates at exactly the right level for each student – regardless of their age – ensuring that work set extends and develops their skills, confidence and ability.
