About this centre

The Kumon Maths and English Study Programmes aim to bring out the best in every child, regardless of age or ability, and help them to reach their potential and foster a love of learning. Through individualised programmes with work set at just the right level, your child will be able to build strong learning foundations, not only developing ability in maths and English but transferable skills that will help them achieve across all subjects.

Children learn through example questions in our worksheets along with Instructor guidance. This method of learning offers so much more than traditional tuition: it nurtures your child’s independence, developing strong self-learning skills to give them the tools to help them excel in the future. Because Kumon does not follow the school curriculum and work is set according to ability, irrespective of age, our programmes allow learners both to fill in any missing gaps in their study foundations as well as the opportunity to work ahead of their school grade level. Your local Instructor will assess your child to determine at what point in the programme they should begin their Kumon study, then through daily work coupled with up to two weekly study centre visits, they will build both self-confidence and crucial skills in small manageable steps.

Please note: Saturday classes run from Echelford Primary School, Park Road, Ashford, TW15 1EX

I am Radhika Ghelani, the Instructor of the Kumon Ashford, Middlesex Study Centre.

Interestingly, Kumon was introduced to me at the age of eight when my parents enrolled me into the Kumon Maths and English Programmes. Studying both the subjects was stimulating and I noticed a natural preference towards the mathematics discipline as Kumon helped me advance beyond school level, resulting in achieving very high academic results.

Both my parents opened their own study centre and I worked as a senior assistant for both. I started realising the benefits Kumon was having to my development, I was motivated to go to university, on top of completing both the Kumon programmes, which I achieved during my first year.

Working in education has always been my dream, and working with children has been natural due to my upbringing in the Kumon business, therefore becoming a Kumon Instructor felt like an obvious career progression for me. The Kumon programmes are an investment towards a child’s education and I have been fortunate enough to reap their rewards. Therefore, I would like to communicate the benefits of the Kumon programmes and make this opportunity available to as many children as possible so that together we can create bright, confident individuals who pursue their full potential.

Students can start learning with Kumon from age two upwards. We currently have students as young as two years old studying with us, ranging all the way up to those about to go to university; Kumon helps children of any age and any ability. The sooner children begin, the earlier they can start developing skills to gain the greatest cumulative benefit; as soon as you feel your family is ready to make the commitment to long-term study, Kumon will be ready to help you achieve your goal.

They don't. A Kumon student progresses based on their current ability and not their age, although we believe that every child has unlimited potential and can ultimately tackle advanced work through well-paced and individualised instruction. We have children of similar ages studying different material and children of different ages studying the same material. Everything is dependent on the student's needs, not on how old they are.

Kumon offers much more than tutoring and differs from traditional teaching in the classroom. Rather than preparing children for a particular test or assessment, Kumon empowers students to learn for themselves, through individualised instruction and carefully developed worksheets.

As well as developing key skills in maths and English, each Kumon student will work towards building their independent learning skills and confidence in their own abilities. This means that a Kumon student will not be dependent on – or limited by – the skills and knowledge of others.

Kumon is a self-learning programme but each student receives regular support from their Instructor. The carefully developed worksheets teach students how to find the answer for themselves, whilst their Instructor offers guidance when necessary. The key role of each Kumon Instructor is to observe their students working, making sure that work is set at the right level and that they are developing at the right pace.

As a global programme, Kumon does not follow a school curriculum, but rather is complementary to curricula across the world. The primary aim of the Kumon Method is to develop independent learning skills. These independent learning skills enhance the students’ performance right across the school curriculum. Kumon operates at exactly the right level for each student – regardless of their age – ensuring that work set extends and develops their skills, confidence and ability.
