Calls for the compulsory teaching of mathematics beyond 16
A report by the Advisory Committee on Mathematics Education concludes that all young people should study some form of mathematics to the age of 18 in order to better prepare them for higher education and the world of employment. In order to do this, additional courses need to be developed for study at the post-16 level.

Education is 'too exam-focused'
Chairman of the Society of Heads of Independent Schools, Philip Cottam, feels that education is "too exam-focused" and says that there is not much room for "flair, imagination and adventure" within a modern system that applies pressure to "teach to the test".
