The Kumon Maths and English Study Programmes aim to bring out the best in every child, regardless of age or ability, and help them to reach their potential and foster a love of learning. Through individualised programmes with work set at just the right level, your child will be able to build strong learning foundations, not only developing ability in maths and English but transferable skills that will help them achieve across all subjects.

Children learn through example questions in our worksheets along with Instructor guidance. This method of learning offers so much more than traditional tuition: it nurtures your child’s independence, developing strong self-learning skills to give them the tools to help them excel in the future. Because Kumon does not follow the school curriculum and work is set according to ability, irrespective of age, our programmes allow learners both to fill in any missing gaps in their study foundations as well as the opportunity to work ahead of their school grade level. Your local Instructor will assess your child to determine at what point in the programme they should begin their Kumon study, then through daily work coupled with up to two weekly study centre visits, they will build both self-confidence and crucial skills in small manageable steps.

As an Ofsted registered centre, parents can make considerable savings through the various schemes.

Hello, my name is Pooja Randhawa and I have been an Instructor at the Kumon Bruce Grove Study Centre since 2012. Having taught maths and ICT for 14 years in the state sector, I was looking for an opportunity to help raise pupil attainment and achievement in maths and English.

My passion for learning motivated me to complete a master's degree in education, and my career as a teacher has had a significant influence on my role as an Instructor. I am also a Kumon parent and have seen excellent progress made by my three children. My eldest has now started secondary school and is an independent learner working above his school level.

There are currently six assistants and one senior staff member who carry out duties to assist me in the classroom. The assistants are responsible for marking and recording homework while the senior staff assist me in ensuring all students are supported with their learning.

My students have made excellent progress, with most of them working beyond school level. The most rewarding part of being a Kumon Instructor is the positive feedback I get from students at the centre, and all the awards that they receive in school for being brilliant mathematicians. It is always great to hear a large number of parents, recommending the centre and hearing positive feedback from current parents.

Most Popular Questions

Kumon is a self-learning programme with each student receiving regular support from their Instructor. The carefully developed worksheets teach students how to find the answer for themselves, whilst their Instructor offers guidance when necessary. The key role of each Kumon Instructor is to observe their students working, either in the centre or their online class, making sure that work is set at the right level and that they are developing at the right pace.

Students can start learning with Kumon from age two upwards. We currently have students as young as two years old studying with us, ranging all the way up to those about to go to university; Kumon helps children of any age and any ability. The sooner children begin, the earlier they can start developing skills to gain the greatest cumulative benefit; as soon as you feel your family is ready to make the commitment to long-term study, Kumon will be ready to help you achieve your goal.

Kumon offers much more than tutoring and differs from traditional teaching in the classroom. Rather than preparing children for a particular test or assessment, Kumon empowers students to learn for themselves, through individualised instruction and carefully developed worksheets.

As well as developing key skills in maths and English, each Kumon student will work towards building their independent learning skills and confidence in their own abilities. This means that a Kumon student will not be dependent on – or limited by – the skills and knowledge of others.

As a global programme, Kumon does not follow a school curriculum, but rather is complementary to curricula across the world. The primary aim of the Kumon Method is to develop independent learning skills. These independent learning skills enhance the students’ performance right across the school curriculum. Kumon operates at exactly the right level for each student – regardless of their age – ensuring that work set extends and develops their skills, confidence and ability.
