About this centre
The unique Kumon Maths and English Programmes pursue the potential of each child by developing confident, independent learners through individualised, advanced study.
The Kumon Caterham Study Centre opened in 2013 and caters for all age groups, with students at the centre currently aged from pre-school through to high school. Our aim is to start our students on the path to success, whether they require further support to succeed academically or are seeking an additional challenge so they can fulfil their potential.
Our students can arrive at a convenient time between the centre’s opening times, whilst each child spends an average of 30 - 50 minutes in the centre, once a week, depending on if they are studying one or both subjects.
Kumon should not be considered a traditional tuition provider as, rather than ‘teaching’ students, we help them develop the skills to work independently and foster in them a 'can-do' attitude when faced with new and unfamiliar work. With the help of the Instructor and her assistants, our students develop in knowledge and concentration, and grow in confidence.
On the programme, your child will begin at a comfortable starting point based on their current ability, and will gradually move through the levels as they master each concept. We motivate our students by giving them lots of support and encouragement.
Hello, my name is Tolu Aigbogun. I have been the Instructor at the Kumon Caterham Study Centre since it opened in January 2013.
I ran a successful business retailing children’s products and offering services for almost ten years, after working in the city of London in asset management for six years. It was during my years of working with young children in the business I realised I particularly enjoyed interacting with children, and no doubt their parents who were always pleased and commented positively on the impact I have had on their child.
During this time, I also had children of my own and discovered my love for imparting knowledge to them. The feelings of satisfaction I got from watching them learn and grow in knowledge got me interested in teaching. Consequently, I obtained a PGCE and have since taught maths to children and adults alike.
As an Instructor and a Kumon parent with school aged children, I am in the best position to know what both you and your children will experience and can best support you through the programme. I will encourage your child to learn how to perform at their full potential and strive to achieve more.

Most Popular Questions
Kumon is a self-learning programme but each student receives regular support from their Instructor. The carefully developed worksheets teach students how to find the answer for themselves, whilst their Instructor offers guidance when necessary. The key role of each Kumon Instructor is to observe their students working, making sure that work is set at the right level and that they are developing at the right pace.
Students can start learning with Kumon from age two upwards. We currently have students as young as two years old studying with us, ranging all the way up to those about to go to university; Kumon helps children of any age and any ability. The sooner children begin, the earlier they can start developing skills to gain the greatest cumulative benefit; as soon as you feel your family is ready to make the commitment to long-term study, Kumon will be ready to help you achieve your goal.
Kumon offers much more than tutoring and differs from traditional teaching in the classroom. Rather than preparing children for a particular test or assessment, Kumon empowers students to learn for themselves, through individualised instruction and carefully developed worksheets.
As well as developing key skills in maths and English, each Kumon student will work towards building their independent learning skills and confidence in their own abilities. This means that a Kumon student will not be dependent on – or limited by – the skills and knowledge of others.
As a global programme, Kumon does not follow a school curriculum, but rather is complementary to curricula across the world. The primary aim of the Kumon Method is to develop independent learning skills. These independent learning skills enhance the students’ performance right across the school curriculum. Kumon operates at exactly the right level for each student – regardless of their age – ensuring that work set extends and develops their skills, confidence and ability.
