About our centre

The Kumon Maths and English Programmes offer comprehensive learning programmes for children, regardless of their current age or ability. Kumon study fosters the ability to self-learn and gives children the perfect opportunity to build the skills required to independently navigate challenges, granting them the opportunity to study material ahead of their school grade level.

The Kumon Instructor provides your child with guidance and assigns worksheets which are appropriate to their skill set and level, giving them the confidence they need to progress at their own pace. Worksheets are set and assigned for the whole week for children to complete at home on days they don’t attend the centre, ensuring children continually feel challenged.

With KUMON CONNECT, the Kumon study programmes are even more accessible with a tablet and stylus, offering more flexibility for students and working parents. Kumon study helps to nurture lifelong learning skills, giving children the ability, courage and confidence to face this ever-changing world.

About your Instructor

I'm Geetha Anchan and I am the Instructor at the Kumon Colchester North Study Centre.

While supporting my son in his education journey, I developed an interest in assisting children learn in a more formal capacity, as it is so incredibly rewarding to see children as they develop and grow. It was when my son started volunteering at a local Kumon centre that I realised I wanted to go further and become an Instructor myself! I've been incredibly privileged to work with children in the last few years, helping shape their lives and feeling profound joy as I work with them.

My key emphasis as a Kumon Instructor is on regular attendance and daily practice. With both the Kumon Maths and English Study Programmes available digitally through KUMON CONNECT, there is a greater degree of flexibility available for every child and you as parents are able to see your children complete tasks and reach milestones at home.

I'm filled with gratitude for the opportunity to be part of the Kumon community and make a positive difference in the lives of young learners.

Both, and every child in between. This is because of our individualised approach to education, which always asks the question: "What is best for this individual child?" Following a diagnostic test, a study plan is set to develop the ability of the child and to progress them beyond the Kumon International Standard (an international approximation of their school level) regardless of their starting point. Kumon welcomes students with special educational needs, gifted and talented children, and all those who believe they can achieve more and fulfil their potential.

Kumon is a self-learning programme with each student receiving regular support from their Instructor. The carefully developed worksheets teach students how to find the answer for themselves, whilst their Instructor offers guidance when necessary. The key role of each Kumon Instructor is to observe their students working, either in the centre or their online class, making sure that work is set at the right level and that they are developing at the right pace.

Kumon offers much more than tutoring and differs from traditional teaching in the classroom. Rather than preparing children for a particular test or assessment, Kumon empowers students to learn for themselves, through individualised instruction and carefully developed worksheets.

As well as developing key skills in maths and English, each Kumon student will work towards building their independent learning skills and confidence in their own abilities. This means that a Kumon student will not be dependent on – or limited by – the skills and knowledge of others.

As a global programme, Kumon does not follow a school curriculum, but rather is complementary to curricula across the world. The primary aim of the Kumon Method is to develop independent learning skills. These independent learning skills enhance the students’ performance right across the school curriculum. Kumon operates at exactly the right level for each student – regardless of their age – ensuring that work set extends and develops their skills, confidence and ability.
