About our centre

We are offering Free Registration to all new students joining the centre until 15 October 2026. 

Saturday class 10:30am to 12:30pm is held at Phoenix Community Centre

Welcome to Kumon Crystal Palace Study Centre, a supportive and welcoming learning centre serving children and families in the local community.

Our centre operates from two convenient locations: Upper Norwood Library on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and Phoenix Community Centre on Saturdays. These accessible locations offer flexibility for families in and around the Crystal Palace area.

We offer the Kumon Maths and English Study Programmes for children of different ages and abilities. Each child follows an individualised study programme tailored to their current ability, enabling them to progress at a pace that is right for them.

At Kumon Crystal Palace, children are encouraged to develop independent study habits, build confidence, and develop a positive attitude towards learning. Through regular study and carefully structured progression, children can strengthen their Maths and English skills while developing concentration, resilience, and the confidence to take on new challenges.

As their skills and confidence grow, the Kumon Programme enables children to progress beyond their current school level and work towards reaching their full potential. Our aim is to create a positive and supportive learning environment where children can develop not only academically, but also as confident, independent, and motivated learners.

We warmly welcome parents and families to Kumon Crystal Palace Study Centre. Whether you choose to attend Upper Norwood Library during the week or Phoenix Community Centre on Saturdays, we look forward to supporting your child on their learning journey.

About your Instructor

My name is Naveed Ahmed, and I am delighted to welcome you to my Kumon Crystal Palace Study Centre.

With over 14 years of teaching experience across all primary year groups, I have developed a real passion for helping children discover their strengths, grow in confidence, and reach their full potential.

I am a qualified teacher with QTS and a qualified Early Years Teacher. Throughout my career, I have enjoyed supporting children at every stage of their learning journey and helping them develop both academically and personally.

I believe that every child is unique and has potential waiting to be realised. Every child learns in their own way and develops at their own pace, and with the right encouragement, support, and opportunities, every child can achieve great things. My experience has shown me how important it is to help children build not only their academic skills but also their confidence, resilience, and belief in themselves.

Kumon’s approach to learning strongly reflects my own values as an educator. The Kumon Programme helps children develop independent study habits, a love of learning, and the confidence to tackle new challenges. As the programme is tailored to each child’s individual ability, it allows them to progress at their own pace and, where appropriate, develop their learning beyond their current school level. By encouraging children to take ownership of their learning and progress step by step, Kumon helps them build the skills and confidence they need both in and beyond the classroom.

As a Kumon Instructor, I am excited to use my teaching experience to support and guide each child on their individual learning journey. My aim is to create a positive and encouraging environment at Kumon Crystal Palace Study Centre, where children feel supported, challenged, and proud of their achievements. I look forward to helping them develop the skills, discipline, confidence, and independence they need to become happy, successful learners.

Frequently Asked Questions

Both, and every child in between. This is because of our individualised approach to education, which always asks the question: "What is best for this individual child?" Following a diagnostic test, a study plan is set to develop the ability of the child and to progress them beyond the Kumon International Standard (an international approximation of their school level) regardless of their starting point. Kumon welcomes students with special educational needs, gifted and talented children, and all those who believe they can achieve more and fulfil their potential.

Kumon is a self-learning programme with each student receiving regular support from their Instructor. The carefully developed worksheets teach students how to find the answer for themselves, whilst their Instructor offers guidance when necessary. The key role of each Kumon Instructor is to observe their students working, either in the centre or their online class, making sure that work is set at the right level and that they are developing at the right pace.

Kumon offers much more than tutoring and differs from traditional teaching in the classroom. Rather than preparing children for a particular test or assessment, Kumon empowers students to learn for themselves, through individualised instruction and carefully developed worksheets.

As well as developing key skills in maths and English, each Kumon student will work towards building their independent learning skills and confidence in their own abilities. This means that a Kumon student will not be dependent on – or limited by – the skills and knowledge of others.

As a global programme, Kumon does not follow a school curriculum, but rather is complementary to curricula across the world. The primary aim of the Kumon Method is to develop independent learning skills. These independent learning skills enhance the students’ performance right across the school curriculum. Kumon operates at exactly the right level for each student – regardless of their age – ensuring that work set extends and develops their skills, confidence and ability.
