About our centre

The Kumon Maths and English Study Programmes aim to bring out the best in every child, regardless of age or ability, helping them reach their full potential and develop a lifelong love of learning.

Through individualised programmes tailored to each child’s ability, your child will build strong foundations in learning. As well as developing their maths and English skills, they will acquire transferable skills that support their progress across all subjects.

Children learn by working through example questions in Kumon worksheets, with guidance from their Instructor when needed. This approach offers much more than traditional tuition: it nurtures independence and develops strong self-learning skills, giving children the tools they need to succeed in the future.

As Kumon does not follow the school curriculum, work is set according to each child’s ability rather than their age or school year. This allows learners to address any gaps in their understanding while also providing opportunities to advance beyond their current school grade level.

Your local Instructor will assess your child to determine the most suitable starting point in the programme. Through daily study at home and up to two study centre visits per week, your child will develop self-confidence, independence and essential learning skills, progressing in small, manageable steps at their own pace.

Our study centre now offers an additional learning programme: English in Polish, designed to help learners whose first language is not English develop their English language skills.

About your Instructor

My name is Aaron Chan, and I am originally from Hong Kong. Since 2007, I have had the privilege of teaching students both locally and internationally, from curious toddlers to ambitious pre-university students.

My greatest joy is seeing students discover a genuine love of learning. One of my proudest achievements is welcoming former students back to share their latest career and life milestones or to tell me that they have chosen to become inspiring educators themselves.

I joined Kumon Ealing Dickens Yard in 2022, and together with our fantastic team, I am passionate about helping every child discover their potential and shine!

Through the Kumon Maths and English Programmes, we help students build strong academic foundations, develop essential self-learning skills, and gain the confidence to tackle advanced concepts independently.

Children are a constant source of inspiration and often our greatest teachers. Their curiosity, individuality, and unique ways of thinking continually shape how we teach. I love exploring new and exciting ways to help children learn, nurturing the confidence, resilience, and joy that will support them throughout their lives.

In the 21st century, we are constantly exposed to media stimulation and an overwhelming flow of information, making it increasingly challenging to maintain focus and think independently. I believe Kumon helps children navigate this complexity by teaching them an invaluable lesson: while we cannot control the wind, we can adjust our sails.

Working hand in hand with children's everyday school studies, Kumon serves as a steady companion throughout their learning journey. It helps them develop concentration, thoughtful problem-solving, and independent learning skills, empowering them to navigate distractions, adapt to challenges, and chart their own course towards success.

Frequently Asked Questions

Both, and every child in between. This is because of our individualised approach to education, which always asks the question: "What is best for this individual child?" Following a diagnostic test, a study plan is set to develop the ability of the child and to progress them beyond the Kumon International Standard (an international approximation of their school level) regardless of their starting point. Kumon welcomes students with special educational needs, gifted and talented children, and all those who believe they can achieve more and fulfil their potential.

Kumon is a self-learning programme with each student receiving regular support from their Instructor. The carefully developed worksheets teach students how to find the answer for themselves, whilst their Instructor offers guidance when necessary. The key role of each Kumon Instructor is to observe their students working, either in the centre or their online class, making sure that work is set at the right level and that they are developing at the right pace.

Kumon offers much more than tutoring and differs from traditional teaching in the classroom. Rather than preparing children for a particular test or assessment, Kumon empowers students to learn for themselves, through individualised instruction and carefully developed worksheets.

As well as developing key skills in maths and English, each Kumon student will work towards building their independent learning skills and confidence in their own abilities. This means that a Kumon student will not be dependent on – or limited by – the skills and knowledge of others.

As a global programme, Kumon does not follow a school curriculum, but rather is complementary to curricula across the world. The primary aim of the Kumon Method is to develop independent learning skills. These independent learning skills enhance the students’ performance right across the school curriculum.
