The Kumon Elm Park Study Centre, based in the Benhurst Primary School in Hornchurch, offers both maths and English Kumon Programmes.

We encourage students to work to their best ability and achieve higher than school grades. The Kumon Elm Park Study Centre welcomes children of all ages and abilities, as it is an individualised programme focused on the individual’s strengths, providing ‘just right level’ of challenge.

We nurture our students with the perfect amount of guidance in a supportive environment, fostering independence. Kumon methods are so much more than ‘traditional tuition ’embedding the real desire to have strong foundations and love of learning.

About the Instructor

Elm Park - Rabia Ijaz
Hello! My Name is Rabia and I am the Instructor at the Kumon Elm Park Study Centre.

I completed a Masters Degree in International Business and Finance; which fostered my love of mathematics. Professionally, I have over 10 years’ experience of working with children from nursery to 16 years of age. Throughout my career, I have realised that self-learning and self-development are vital skills that, if they can be mastered during childhood, will have numerous benefits throughout life. Learning to self-learn is a key skill for individuals of all ages, and this is something that the Kumon Programme instils.

I believe that every child has huge potential and as a Kumon Instructor, I can provide tools to help them reach this potential under the Kumon Structured Programme and method. There is a popular saying that teaches that the “Sky is the limit” but I prefer to think “Broaden your Horizons", and this ethos and mindset is something the Kumon Programme can help children with.

I have a passion for education and a keen desire to help children achieve their full potential through education and transferable skills they can use throughout their life. It is of utmost important to me, that each and every child attending my Kumon Centre grows into a positive and confident learner who believes in themselves. Alongside providing academic knowledge, my team and I will ensure development of each child's attitude towards their studies, including concentration, focus, pace and attention to detail - ultimately providing them with all the skills needed to encourage critical thinking and independent working.

How long does study take?

The time taken to complete a day's work may be around 30 minutes per subject. The study time is down to each individual and their current study level. Class times displayed may include a combination of in-centre and online class sessions. Please contact your Instructor for further details.

Popular Questions

Kumon is a self-learning programme with each student receiving regular support from their Instructor. The carefully developed worksheets teach students how to find the answer for themselves, whilst their Instructor offers guidance when necessary. The key role of each Kumon Instructor is to observe their students working, either in the centre or their online class, making sure that work is set at the right level and that they are developing at the right pace.

Students can start learning with Kumon from age two upwards. We currently have students as young as two years old studying with us, ranging all the way up to those about to go to university; Kumon helps children of any age and any ability. The sooner children begin, the earlier they can start developing skills to gain the greatest cumulative benefit; as soon as you feel your family is ready to make the commitment to long-term study, Kumon will be ready to help you achieve your goal.

Kumon offers much more than tutoring and differs from traditional teaching in the classroom. Rather than preparing children for a particular test or assessment, Kumon empowers students to learn for themselves, through individualised instruction and carefully developed worksheets.

As well as developing key skills in maths and English, each Kumon student will work towards building their independent learning skills and confidence in their own abilities. This means that a Kumon student will not be dependent on – or limited by – the skills and knowledge of others.

As a global programme, Kumon does not follow a school curriculum, but rather is complementary to curricula across the world. The primary aim of the Kumon Method is to develop independent learning skills. These independent learning skills enhance the students’ performance right across the school curriculum. Kumon operates at exactly the right level for each student – regardless of their age – ensuring that work set extends and develops their skills, confidence and ability.
