About our centre

The centre has been operating in the area for over 20 years and offers maths and English programmes for children of all ages and abilities. The unique Kumon programmes pursue the potential of each child by developing confident and independent learners through individualised study.

The class atmosphere is enjoyed by all the students as they become part of our Kumon family. They become well known by all the members of staff who support them through their study plan and the exciting Kumon journey. All the staff encourage students to become independent learners through guidance and support. Our centre has a great team who hold the success and happiness of the children very close to their hearts.

Parents and students are regularly updated on their study progress and the study plan which lies ahead of them.

About your Instructor

My journey with Kumon began over a decade ago as a parent. Watching my own children progress through the programme was incredibly rewarding. Not only did they develop strong academic skills, but they also built resilience, discipline, and a love of learning that has stayed with them into adulthood. Today, they have gone on to successful careers in London, and I have seen first-hand the lasting impact Kumon can have.

Inspired by that experience, I joined the Kumon Elstree Study Centre as an assistant before becoming the Instructor in 2012. Since then, I have dedicated myself to supporting hundreds of students on their own learning journeys.

My centre has also been recognised through an OFSTED inspection, in which we achieved an excellent outcome. This is something I am particularly proud of, as it reflects the high standard of care and education we provide.

What I enjoy most is seeing each child’s confidence grow. Every small step forward matters, and I celebrate those achievements with every one of my students. I work closely with each family, tailoring study plans to meet the individual needs of every child, because no two learners are the same.

I strongly believe in the partnership between student, parent, and instructor. When we work together, remarkable progress can be achieved.

Both, and every child in between. This is because of our individualised approach to education, which always asks the question: "What is best for this individual child?" Following a diagnostic test, a study plan is set to develop the ability of the child and to progress them beyond the Kumon International Standard (an international approximation of their school level) regardless of their starting point. Kumon welcomes students with special educational needs, gifted and talented children, and all those who believe they can achieve more and fulfil their potential.

Kumon is a self-learning programme with each student receiving regular support from their Instructor. The carefully developed worksheets teach students how to find the answer for themselves, whilst their Instructor offers guidance when necessary. The key role of each Kumon Instructor is to observe their students working, either in the centre or their online class, making sure that work is set at the right level and that they are developing at the right pace.

Kumon offers much more than tutoring and differs from traditional teaching in the classroom. Rather than preparing children for a particular test or assessment, Kumon empowers students to learn for themselves, through individualised instruction and carefully developed worksheets.

As well as developing key skills in maths and English, each Kumon student will work towards building their independent learning skills and confidence in their own abilities. This means that a Kumon student will not be dependent on – or limited by – the skills and knowledge of others.

As a global programme, Kumon does not follow a school curriculum, but rather is complementary to curricula across the world. The primary aim of the Kumon Method is to develop independent learning skills. These independent learning skills enhance the students’ performance right across the school curriculum. Kumon operates at exactly the right level for each student – regardless of their age – ensuring that work set extends and develops their skills, confidence and ability.
