The Kumon Maths and English Study Programmes offer what traditional tuition gives to your child and more. Kumon goes one step further by helping each child develop self-learning skills, enabling them to tackle challenging work without reliance on a teacher. Our aim is to help any child of any ability to progress and develop a curiosity and love for learning.
**Based on full saving on a £70 monthly subject fee
Your local Instructor will set work for your child at just the right level, enabling them to build confidence in their abilities and progress their maths and English skills in small, manageable steps through daily study. They will visit their local study centre up to twice a week for sessions with their Instructor. This allows the Instructor to tailor and adapt each child’s study plan to their abilities, through observing their progress and fluency at each level. Our study programmes are individualised to each child to help them establish strong learning foundations and a positive learning experience, to build skills and confidence for their future.
Hi, my name is Yoko Kaji-McLaren and I am the Instructor at the Finchley East Study Centre. My experience with Kumon started a long time ago as a Kumon student when I was a child in Japan.
When my children started Kumon, they were studying worksheets according to their ability and not their age, which allowed them to catch up at school and boost their confidence. After several years in the programme they are no longer struggling but excelling and studying at levels a few years ahead of what is expected of them according to their school ages. This happened because their self-learning skills have been developed through the daily worksheet study and their tailored learning.
My motivation has been to make a difference to the future of as many children as possible. I really enjoy watching my students become more confident individuals and independent in their approach to their work. I have seen many students enjoy reading much more and a lot of parents are delighted by the big improvement in school reports and exam results.
I hold progress meetings annually, but parents are welcome to contact me at any time outside of class by email or telephone to discuss their child’s progress and pose any queries they may have about their development.

Kumon is a self-learning programme but each student receives regular support from their Instructor. The carefully developed worksheets teach students how to find the answer for themselves, whilst their Instructor offers guidance when necessary. The key role of each Kumon Instructor is to observe their students working, making sure that work is set at the right level and that they are developing at the right pace.
Students can start learning with Kumon from age two upwards. We currently have students as young as two years old studying with us, ranging all the way up to those about to go to university; Kumon helps children of any age and any ability. The sooner children begin, the earlier they can start developing skills to gain the greatest cumulative benefit; as soon as you feel your family is ready to make the commitment to long-term study, Kumon will be ready to help you achieve your goal.
Kumon offers much more than tutoring and differs from traditional teaching in the classroom. Rather than preparing children for a particular test or assessment, Kumon empowers students to learn for themselves, through individualised instruction and carefully developed worksheets.
As well as developing key skills in maths and English, each Kumon student will work towards building their independent learning skills and confidence in their own abilities. This means that a Kumon student will not be dependent on – or limited by – the skills and knowledge of others.
As a global programme, Kumon does not follow a school curriculum, but rather is complementary to curricula across the world. The primary aim of the Kumon Method is to develop independent learning skills. These independent learning skills enhance the students’ performance right across the school curriculum. Kumon operates at exactly the right level for each student – regardless of their age – ensuring that work set extends and develops their skills, confidence and ability.
