About this centre

The Kumon Greenwich Study Centre was established at the start of 2010 and is very popular with families from the surrounding areas.

Students at the centre currently range in age from three to 15 years old. Independence and concentration is encouraged within all students including the very young. Many of our students have been studying Kumon for over a year and some have been with us since we opened.

The class is a focused, calm, environment where children of all ages and abilities are welcome. The class is split into different levels with specialised assistants work alongside students, ensuring they are monitored closely. Newly enrolled students are given more intensive support to enable them to settle in and learn the class process.

The unique Kumon Maths and English Programmes pursue the potential of each child by developing confident, independent learners through individualised, advanced study.

Following a free assessment, your child’s study programme will be tailored to their individual needs, ensuring your child continues to grow and achieve. Through daily study, both at the study centre and independently at home, Kumon goes further than traditional methods of tuition by ensuring students maintain a level of development every day.

Hello, my name is Claire and I am the Instructor at Kumon Greenwich Study Centre. I opened my centre in early 2010 as I was looking for something that matched my skills and enthusiasm for working with children and young people.

I have a wealth of experience teaching maths and English, and I am Cambridge certified to teach English as a foreign language.

Over the years, I have heard stories of the benefits and confidence students gain from studying with the Kumon Method. After starting a family, I decided to become a Kumon Instructor and now I’m a Kumon parent myself! I am fascinated by how the Kumon programme has given my children confidence in their abilities, whilst improving their concentration levels and work speed.

The Kumon Greenwich Study Centre has flourished: I have enjoyed observing children of all levels improve and exceed their expectations. I trust that with encouragement and positive feedback, all children can reach their full potential. I love to hear stories of how well children are progressing, an award received or moving up a set in class.

I am committed to developing my own instruction and constantly review and improve the way class is run, to ensure that each student can progress smoothly. I have the utmost respect for the commitment that the parents have to their children’s education.

I look forward to welcoming your child to my centre.

Students can start learning with Kumon from age two upwards. We currently have students as young as two years old studying with us, ranging all the way up to those about to go to university; Kumon helps children of any age and any ability. The sooner children begin, the earlier they can start developing skills to gain the greatest cumulative benefit; as soon as you feel your family is ready to make the commitment to long-term study, Kumon will be ready to help you achieve your goal.

They don't. A Kumon student progresses based on their current ability and not their age, although we believe that every child has unlimited potential and can ultimately tackle advanced work through well-paced and individualised instruction. We have children of similar ages studying different material and children of different ages studying the same material. Everything is dependent on the student's needs, not on how old they are.

Kumon offers much more than tutoring and differs from traditional teaching in the classroom. Rather than preparing children for a particular test or assessment, Kumon empowers students to learn for themselves, through individualised instruction and carefully developed worksheets.

As well as developing key skills in maths and English, each Kumon student will work towards building their independent learning skills and confidence in their own abilities. This means that a Kumon student will not be dependent on – or limited by – the skills and knowledge of others.

Kumon is a self-learning programme but each student receives regular support from their Instructor. The carefully developed worksheets teach students how to find the answer for themselves, whilst their Instructor offers guidance when necessary. The key role of each Kumon Instructor is to observe their students working, making sure that work is set at the right level and that they are developing at the right pace.

As a global programme, Kumon does not follow a school curriculum, but rather is complementary to curricula across the world. The primary aim of the Kumon Method is to develop independent learning skills. These independent learning skills enhance the students’ performance right across the school curriculum. Kumon operates at exactly the right level for each student – regardless of their age – ensuring that work set extends and develops their skills, confidence and ability.
