About this centre
The Kumon High Wycombe North Study Centre provides a supportive, welcoming environment for students of all ages and abilities to study the Kumon Maths and English Programmes.
Currently students at the centre range in age from three to 19 years old. The unique Kumon Maths and English Programmes pursue the potential of each child by developing confident, independent learners through individualised, advanced study. The students study the worksheet based programmes at a pace that works for them.
The High Wycombe North Study Centre has an excellent reputation for building strong foundations in maths and English for our early learners and for bringing out the best in them. We also support older students by assisting them in enhancing their skills no matter their ability.
The centre aims to build foundations, improve skills and ensure that each student grows in confidence and achieves their full potential. The staff at the centre are from the local grammar schools, some of whom are Kumon alumni.
Unlike the process of a traditional tuition provider, Kumon encourages students to take their learning into their own hands. The role of the Kumon Instructor is to provide guidance, support and encouragement, allowing the student to develop their own independent learning strategies.
Hi, my name is Pav Haer and I have been the Instructor at the High Wycombe North Study Centre since 2013.
I have been involved with Kumon for over five years, initially supporting a friend who had taken over a centre. Working with the students and seeing the positive effects the Kumon Method of Learning had on them was the perfect combination for me, and this motivated me to become an Instructor myself.
My initial personal goal, when I took over the study centre, was to become fully qualified in my first year, which I am pleased to say I achieved. I believe that this was due to my drive and determination, qualities I aim to instil in my students so they are able to succeed in all they do.
I have two sons who are very different and they have taught me a lot. They were both Kumon students and the programmes certainly helped them to excel.
Every student receives a work plan, which is set in partnership with the student, their parent and myself. I am a firm believer that we all need to work together to support the development and potential of each student.

Most Popular Questions
Kumon is a self-learning programme but each student receives regular support from their Instructor. The carefully developed worksheets teach students how to find the answer for themselves, whilst their Instructor offers guidance when necessary. The key role of each Kumon Instructor is to observe their students working, making sure that work is set at the right level and that they are developing at the right pace.
Students can start learning with Kumon from age two upwards. We currently have students as young as two years old studying with us, ranging all the way up to those about to go to university; Kumon helps children of any age and any ability. The sooner children begin, the earlier they can start developing skills to gain the greatest cumulative benefit; as soon as you feel your family is ready to make the commitment to long-term study, Kumon will be ready to help you achieve your goal.
Kumon offers much more than tutoring and differs from traditional teaching in the classroom. Rather than preparing children for a particular test or assessment, Kumon empowers students to learn for themselves, through individualised instruction and carefully developed worksheets.
As well as developing key skills in maths and English, each Kumon student will work towards building their independent learning skills and confidence in their own abilities. This means that a Kumon student will not be dependent on – or limited by – the skills and knowledge of others.
As a global programme, Kumon does not follow a school curriculum, but rather is complementary to curricula across the world. The primary aim of the Kumon Method is to develop independent learning skills. These independent learning skills enhance the students’ performance right across the school curriculum. Kumon operates at exactly the right level for each student – regardless of their age – ensuring that work set extends and develops their skills, confidence and ability.
