About our centre

We are offering Free Registration to all new students joining the centre until 31 October 2026.

At Kumon Hove, Portland Road study centre, we believe that every child deserves to begin their learning journey at the right starting point; one where they feel comfortable, confident, and ready to learn.

We place great importance on each child’s well-being, confidence, and individual needs. Rather than overwhelming students with work that is too difficult, we carefully establish a comfortable starting level and gradually introduce greater challenges as their skills and confidence develop.

Step by step, day by day, children become stronger, more capable, and more independent learners.

Our experienced and highly qualified team provides consistent encouragement and guidance, helping each student progress at a pace that is both achievable and challenging. As their abilities grow, so do their confidence, motivation, concentration, and determination.

Our goal is not simply to help children keep up with their schoolwork. We aim to help them reach their full potential and, wherever possible, progress beyond their expected school level.

About your Instructor

As a mother of three and someone who is deeply passionate about education, I understand how important it is for parents to see their children feel confident, happy, and successful in their learning.

My journey with Kumon began four years ago, when my own children joined the centre. I was genuinely amazed by the impact of the Kumon Method. My son progressed from being approximately two years behind his school level to being two years ahead. His remarkable progress helped him secure a place at one of the most prestigious independent schools in the area.

Seeing this transformation in my own child inspired me to learn more about the Kumon Method. I decided to study the method in depth and become fully qualified in London so that I could help other children and families experience the same positive journey.

My goal is for every child at our centre to receive the right support, encouragement, and guidance from our experienced team. I want every student to feel valued and supported in their learning and wellbeing, while developing into a stronger, happier, more confident, and independent learner.

Having witnessed first-hand what Kumon has achieved for my own children, I am passionate about helping every child unlock their potential and achieve more than they ever thought possible.

I believe that every child has the ability to succeed. My role is to help them discover it, develop it, and believe in themselves along the way.

Both, and every child in between. This is because of our individualised approach to education, which always asks the question: "What is best for this individual child?" Following a diagnostic test, a study plan is set to develop the ability of the child and to progress them beyond the Kumon International Standard (an international approximation of their school level) regardless of their starting point. Kumon welcomes students with special educational needs, gifted and talented children, and all those who believe they can achieve more and fulfil their potential.

Kumon is a self-learning programme with each student receiving regular support from their Instructor. The carefully developed worksheets teach students how to find the answer for themselves, whilst their Instructor offers guidance when necessary. The key role of each Kumon Instructor is to observe their students working, either in the centre or their online class, making sure that work is set at the right level and that they are developing at the right pace.

Kumon offers much more than tutoring and differs from traditional teaching in the classroom. Rather than preparing children for a particular test or assessment, Kumon empowers students to learn for themselves, through individualised instruction and carefully developed worksheets.

As well as developing key skills in maths and English, each Kumon student will work towards building their independent learning skills and confidence in their own abilities. This means that a Kumon student will not be dependent on – or limited by – the skills and knowledge of others.

As a global programme, Kumon does not follow a school curriculum, but rather is complementary to curricula across the world. The primary aim of the Kumon Method is to develop independent learning skills. These independent learning skills enhance the students’ performance right across the school curriculum. Kumon operates at exactly the right level for each student – regardless of their age – ensuring that work set extends and develops their skills, confidence and ability.
