About this centre
The Kumon Birstall Study Centre was established in 2017 and is situated in the heart of the village on Birstall Road.
Kumon study ensures that every child develops a love for learning. We offer maths and English programmes to help students of any age and ability to progress their skills and build key foundations for learning. Traditional maths and English tuition helps students progress, but Kumon goes one step further by helping each child develop self-learning skills, enabling them to tackle challenging work without reliance on a teacher.
Students complete daily worksheet study which develops their ability and fluency gradually over time, progressing in small steps and building confidence. They also visit their local study centre at least once a week for guidance from their Instructor. Your child’s Kumon Instructor will set work at just the right level to challenge and keep them engaged, regardless of age or school year. This means that they can strengthen their key skills or progress beyond school grade level without restriction. Kumon offers a cost-effective and convenient way to help your child build strong English and maths skills for a successful future.
My name is Dipa Vithlani and I am the Instructor at the Kumon Leicester, Birstall Study Centre.
I have many years’ experience working with young people in an educational setting, and am passionate about helping children develop and become confident learners.
As an Instructor, it is extremely rewarding being able to help students reach their full potential and seeing their confidence grow throughout their Kumon journey.
My own children started Kumon six years ago. It was during this time I recognised the benefits of the learning method. The extra practice of basic skills, together with the all-important focus on each child working at their own pace, makes the Kumon programmes stand out over other supplementary education providers.
My experience as a Kumon parent has given me a great insight into the programmes and their benefits but also how to overcome any challenges that may arise, which could impact upon a student’s progress and enjoyment.
The skills that Kumon nurtures are far beyond passing exams, the study skills acquired are useful in all strands of life. I believe Kumon is most effective when the student, parent and the Instructor work together.
I look forward to welcoming you to my study centre.

Most Popular Questions
Kumon is a self-learning programme with each student receiving regular support from their Instructor. The carefully developed worksheets teach students how to find the answer for themselves, whilst their Instructor offers guidance when necessary. The key role of each Kumon Instructor is to observe their students working, either in the centre or their online class, making sure that work is set at the right level and that they are developing at the right pace.
Students can start learning with Kumon from age two upwards. We currently have students as young as two years old studying with us, ranging all the way up to those about to go to university; Kumon helps children of any age and any ability. The sooner children begin, the earlier they can start developing skills to gain the greatest cumulative benefit; as soon as you feel your family is ready to make the commitment to long-term study, Kumon will be ready to help you achieve your goal.
Kumon offers much more than tutoring and differs from traditional teaching in the classroom. Rather than preparing children for a particular test or assessment, Kumon empowers students to learn for themselves, through individualised instruction and carefully developed worksheets.
As well as developing key skills in maths and English, each Kumon student will work towards building their independent learning skills and confidence in their own abilities. This means that a Kumon student will not be dependent on – or limited by – the skills and knowledge of others.
As a global programme, Kumon does not follow a school curriculum, but rather is complementary to curricula across the world. The primary aim of the Kumon Method is to develop independent learning skills. These independent learning skills enhance the students’ performance right across the school curriculum. Kumon operates at exactly the right level for each student – regardless of their age – ensuring that work set extends and develops their skills, confidence and ability.
