Welcome to the Kumon Leyton Study Centre, which was established in 2013, provides maths and English programmes for students of all ages and abilities. Students at the centre learn to work independently through their tailored programme. The centre currently supports a number of children, many of whom attend schools within Waltham Forest.
The unique Kumon Maths and English Programmes pursue the potential of each child by developing confident, independent learners through individualised, advanced study.
An initial assessment will identify their current skill set, and working together with parents and students, an individualised study plan is made which will allow the student to build on their skills such as concentration, confidence, and independent learning to further their knowledge and excel both in and beyond the classroom.
Information sessions are usually held on a Monday evening and enrolments are arranged at a time to suit you - normally in the evening during the week or Saturday mornings. At these meetings we can discuss the Kumon programmes, show examples of the type of work your child will be doing and assess the level at which your child will begin. If you do wish to proceed, your child can start at the next session on the day that is most convenient for you.

Hello, my name is Shellina Sharma and I am the Instructor at the Kumon Leyton Study Centre. Having previously worked within the finance sector, the skills I have developed over the years are a great asset to me as an Instructor.
When I saw the benefits of the Kumon Maths and English Programmes with my own children, my desire to become an Instructor increased. I have been a Kumon parent for almost four years and have seen my children grow from strength to strength, working well above their school levels. Guiding them through their work on a regular basis from a young age, helped them gain entry to high achieving secondary schools.
My greatest reward is seeing children progress through each level; the confidence they gain in their academic ability, as well as outside the classroom. It is also rewarding for me to observe my students realising their full potential.
I take delight in encouraging and motivating my students to maintain consistent daily study habits. I firmly believe that every child has the ability to learn beyond, even what they believe they are capable of.

Students can start learning with Kumon from age two upwards. We currently have students as young as two years old studying with us, ranging all the way up to those about to go to university; Kumon helps children of any age and any ability. The sooner children begin, the earlier they can start developing skills to gain the greatest cumulative benefit; as soon as you feel your family is ready to make the commitment to long-term study, Kumon will be ready to help you achieve your goal.
They don't. A Kumon student progresses based on their current ability and not their age, although we believe that every child has unlimited potential and can ultimately tackle advanced work through well-paced and individualised instruction. We have children of similar ages studying different material and children of different ages studying the same material. Everything is dependent on the student's needs, not on how old they are.
Kumon offers much more than tutoring and differs from traditional teaching in the classroom. Rather than preparing children for a particular test or assessment, Kumon empowers students to learn for themselves, through individualised instruction and carefully developed worksheets.
As well as developing key skills in maths and English, each Kumon student will work towards building their independent learning skills and confidence in their own abilities. This means that a Kumon student will not be dependent on – or limited by – the skills and knowledge of others.
Kumon is a self-learning programme but each student receives regular support from their Instructor. The carefully developed worksheets teach students how to find the answer for themselves, whilst their Instructor offers guidance when necessary. The key role of each Kumon Instructor is to observe their students working, making sure that work is set at the right level and that they are developing at the right pace.
As a global programme, Kumon does not follow a school curriculum, but rather is complementary to curricula across the world. The primary aim of the Kumon Method is to develop independent learning skills. These independent learning skills enhance the students’ performance right across the school curriculum. Kumon operates at exactly the right level for each student – regardless of their age – ensuring that work set extends and develops their skills, confidence and ability.
