About this centre
Classes are held three times a week at the local West Park Leisure Centre. We offer comfortable, well-lit, air-conditioned surroundings - a perfect learning environment for your child. The Instructor and his team of helpful class assistants fill the centre with an encouraging, supportive and friendly atmosphere. We help students from pre-school to A Level develop strong independent study skills and good work habits, alongside improving their maths and English skills.
There is ample free car parking available, and a seating area outside the classroom where parents can relax with a coffee while their child is studying.
The unique Kumon Maths and English Programmes pursue the potential of each child by developing confident, independent learners through individualised, advanced study.
Similar to other tuition providers, the Kumon programmes focus on essential academic skills, but we go one step further by developing a child’s independent study skills, needed for school, university, employment and other aspects of adult life.
We look forward to welcoming you at the centre.
My first contact with Kumon was as a parent, so I really understand the reasons why you want to do the best thing for your children’s education. I have personally seen and enjoyed the benefits that can come from Kumon study with my own children.
My science degree and love of knowledge led me to become an information scientist, and I spent many years working in the information technology industry.
I worked part-time whilst caring for my young children, and this experience of seeing them develop and helping them learn, persuaded me to take a change in direction.
I decided to train as a primary teacher. I felt enormously privileged to be responsible for the learning and development of children, and to be having a positive impact on the rest of their lives. This feeling was later enhanced when I became a Kumon Instructor.
The marvellous moment when they arrive at an understanding of a topic they’ve found challenging is truly thrilling. It’s an important part of my role to use these moments to help children find confidence and make their own discoveries.
Since taking over the study centre in 2013, I have never looked back.

Most Popular Questions
Kumon is a self-learning programme but each student receives regular support from their Instructor. The carefully developed worksheets teach students how to find the answer for themselves, whilst their Instructor offers guidance when necessary. The key role of each Kumon Instructor is to observe their students working, making sure that work is set at the right level and that they are developing at the right pace.
Students can start learning with Kumon from age two upwards. We currently have students as young as two years old studying with us, ranging all the way up to those about to go to university; Kumon helps children of any age and any ability. The sooner children begin, the earlier they can start developing skills to gain the greatest cumulative benefit; as soon as you feel your family is ready to make the commitment to long-term study, Kumon will be ready to help you achieve your goal.
Kumon offers much more than tutoring and differs from traditional teaching in the classroom. Rather than preparing children for a particular test or assessment, Kumon empowers students to learn for themselves, through individualised instruction and carefully developed worksheets.
As well as developing key skills in maths and English, each Kumon student will work towards building their independent learning skills and confidence in their own abilities. This means that a Kumon student will not be dependent on – or limited by – the skills and knowledge of others.
As a global programme, Kumon does not follow a school curriculum, but rather is complementary to curricula across the world. The primary aim of the Kumon Method is to develop independent learning skills. These independent learning skills enhance the students’ performance right across the school curriculum. Kumon operates at exactly the right level for each student – regardless of their age – ensuring that work set extends and develops their skills, confidence and ability.
