About our centre

The Kumon Newark-on-Trent Study Centre provides a fully online learning experience, enabling children to benefit from expert instruction and personalised support from the comfort of their own homes. Through live Zoom sessions, students work directly with the Instructor while developing the confidence, study habits, and independent learning skills that are central to the Kumon Method.

The Kumon Maths and English Programmes are designed for children of all ages and abilities. Each child's journey begins with a detailed assessment, allowing the Instructor to create an individualised study plan based on the student's current ability rather than their age or school year. This approach enables students to strengthen existing skills, address learning gaps, or advance beyond school-level material at a pace that is appropriate for them.

Learning is delivered through the world-leading Kumon Connect platform, which combines the proven Kumon Method with modern digital technology. Students complete and submit their work electronically, allowing the Instructor and centre team to review progress on a daily basis. Worksheets are marked promptly, and regular feedback, guidance, and timely interventions are provided whenever needed. This close monitoring ensures that students remain engaged, challenged, and supported throughout their learning journey.

By combining expert instruction, personalised learning, and continuous feedback with the flexibility of online study, the centre offers the benefits of individualised support alongside the convenience of a modern digital learning environment.

Unlike many tutoring programmes, Kumon does not follow a specific school curriculum. Instead, it focuses on building strong foundations in mathematics and English, enabling students to develop the skills, confidence, and self-learning ability needed for long-term academic success.

As mathematics and English underpin learning across many subjects, the skills developed through Kumon help students perform more confidently throughout their education, from SATs and 11+ examinations to GCSEs, A Levels, university entrance, and beyond.

Minju Rathy

About your Instructor

Hello, I'm Minju, the Instructor at Kumon Newark-on-Trent Study Centre.

My academic background includes a degree in Commerce and postgraduate qualifications in Commerce and Business. After beginning my professional career in marketing, I developed strong analytical, organisational, and leadership skills, which continue to support my work as a Kumon Instructor.

My relationship with Kumon spans more than a decade, both as a centre owner and a classroom assistant. During this time, I have had the privilege of supporting hundreds of students as they develop strong academic foundations, confidence, and independent learning skills. This experience has given me a deep understanding of the Kumon Method and how to tailor learning to meet the needs of each individual child.

My connection to Kumon is also personal. As a Kumon parent, I have seen first-hand the difference that consistent, self-paced study can make. My own children began Kumon at the age of three and went on to achieve success not only in school but also in challenges such as the 11+, the Junior Maths Challenge, and GCSE examinations. Their journey reinforced my belief in the long-term benefits of developing strong fundamentals and independent study habits from an early age.

At Kumon Newark-on-Trent, I work directly with students through live online classes delivered via Zoom and supported by the innovative Kumon Connect platform. Together with my team, I closely monitor each student's progress, providing regular feedback, guidance, and timely intervention to ensure that every child is supported throughout their learning journey.

I believe that every child has unique potential. My goal is to help each student develop not only strong maths and English skills, but also the confidence, resilience, and self-learning ability that will benefit them throughout their education and beyond.

I look forward to supporting your child's journey and helping them achieve their full potential.

Frequently Asked Questions

Both, and every child in between. This is because of our individualised approach to education, which always asks the question: "What is best for this individual child?" Following a diagnostic test, a study plan is set to develop the ability of the child and to progress them beyond the Kumon International Standard (an international approximation of their school level) regardless of their starting point. Kumon welcomes students with special educational needs, gifted and talented children, and all those who believe they can achieve more and fulfil their potential.

Kumon is a self-learning programme with each student receiving regular support from their Instructor. The carefully developed worksheets teach students how to find the answer for themselves, whilst their Instructor offers guidance when necessary. The key role of each Kumon Instructor is to observe their students working, either in the centre or their online class, making sure that work is set at the right level and that they are developing at the right pace.

Kumon offers much more than tutoring and differs from traditional teaching in the classroom. Rather than preparing children for a particular test or assessment, Kumon empowers students to learn for themselves, through individualised instruction and carefully developed worksheets.

As well as developing key skills in maths and English, each Kumon student will work towards building their independent learning skills and confidence in their own abilities. This means that a Kumon student will not be dependent on – or limited by – the skills and knowledge of others.

As a global programme, Kumon does not follow a school curriculum, but rather is complementary to curricula across the world. The primary aim of the Kumon Method is to develop independent learning skills. These independent learning skills enhance the students’ performance right across the school curriculum. Kumon operates at exactly the right level for each student – regardless of their age – ensuring that work set extends and develops their skills, confidence and ability.
