Our centre offers maths and English study programmes to children from the age of 3 to 14. The Kumon programmes offer even more than what your traditional tuition would. Kumon goes one step further by helping each child develop self-learning skills and independence, enabling them to tackle challenging work without reliance on a teacher. Our aim is to help children of any ability to progress immensely and develop that curiosity and love for learning.

At the Kumon North Harrow Study Centre, we believe every child can reach their potential if they enjoy their learning. It is important for students to work according to their ability and progress with the help of the programme. Students are praised for their achievements and encouraged, helping to boost their confidence and motivating them to excel. We also hold an annual award ceremony to celebrate and recognise their accomplishments. These students serve as examples of how much their commitment to regular Kumon study aids in their academic development.

The centre is in a professional setting on North Harrow High Street and is open 4 days a week. Our students attend two classes weekly. Attending the centre is important as it allows us to adapt each child’s weekly worksheets through observing their progress and fluency at each level. Our study programmes are individualised to each child to establish strong learning foundations and a positive learning experience, building skills and confidence for their future.

About the Instructor

North Harrow - Minal Patel

I have been an instructor at the North Harrow Study Centre since 2011. I am a certified accountant and worked in the profession for 16 years. I came across Kumon when my daughter started her Kumon journey at the age of 4 and soon realized the programme's benefits. I decided to become an Instructor to act on my belief that the Kumon Study Programmes can improve the education of others.

Having seen my daughter's progress through her education, I have witnessed the numerous skills Kumon instilled in her, including time management, stamina, discipline, perseverance, and most importantly self-learning skills. These skills are not just needed in education but also later in life.

I enjoy working with children and love to see them reach their potential and go beyond what they thought was possible. Even small step leads to a huge success in learning. It is very satisfying when children come to class and tell me of their achievements with looks of pride on their faces. I truly believe Kumon offers wonderful study programmes and gives every child a solid platform from which to learn and grow as students and people.

Popular Questions

Kumon is a self-learning programme with each student receiving regular support from their Instructor. The carefully developed worksheets teach students how to find the answer for themselves, whilst their Instructor offers guidance when necessary. The key role of each Kumon Instructor is to observe their students working, either in the centre or their online class, making sure that work is set at the right level and that they are developing at the right pace.

Students can start learning with Kumon from age two upwards. We currently have students as young as two years old studying with us, ranging all the way up to those about to go to university; Kumon helps children of any age and any ability. The sooner children begin, the earlier they can start developing skills to gain the greatest cumulative benefit; as soon as you feel your family is ready to make the commitment to long-term study, Kumon will be ready to help you achieve your goal.

Kumon offers much more than tutoring and differs from traditional teaching in the classroom. Rather than preparing children for a particular test or assessment, Kumon empowers students to learn for themselves, through individualised instruction and carefully developed worksheets.

As well as developing key skills in maths and English, each Kumon student will work towards building their independent learning skills and confidence in their own abilities. This means that a Kumon student will not be dependent on – or limited by – the skills and knowledge of others.

As a global programme, Kumon does not follow a school curriculum, but rather is complementary to curricula across the world. The primary aim of the Kumon Method is to develop independent learning skills. These independent learning skills enhance the students’ performance right across the school curriculum. Kumon operates at exactly the right level for each student – regardless of their age – ensuring that work set extends and develops their skills, confidence and ability.
