The Kumon Maths and English Study Programmes aim to bring out the best in every child, regardless of age or ability, and help them to reach their potential and foster a love of learning. Through individualised programmes with work set at just the right level, your child will be able to build strong learning foundations, not only developing ability in maths and English but transferable skills that will help them achieve across all subjects.
Children learn through example questions in our worksheets along with Instructor guidance. This method of learning offers so much more than traditional tuition: it nurtures your child’s independence, developing strong self-learning skills to give them the tools to help them excel in the future. Because Kumon does not follow the school curriculum and work is set according to ability, irrespective of age, our programmes allow learners both to fill in any missing gaps in their study foundations as well as the opportunity to work ahead of their school grade level. Your local Instructor will assess your child to determine at what point in the programme they should begin their Kumon study, then through daily work coupled with twice weekly study centre visits, they will build both self-confidence and crucial skills in small manageable steps.
My name is Sharon Davis and I am the Instructor at the centre. I have a maths degree and a postgraduate certificate in education and I have always had a keen interest in the education of children.
After seeing the positive effects Kumon was having on a friend's son, I decided to look into Kumon in more detail and in 2003 I opened the Oldham Central Study Centre.
My role as a Kumon Instructor is extremely rewarding. I am very committed to ensuring that every child in my centre develops to their full potential. It gives me great satisfaction to help students and to see them discover the joy in learning for themselves.
Over the years working as a Kumon Instructor, I have realised that it is extremely important that a child is given the practice to learn something and understand it before moving on and starting something new. I have seen how completing a small amount of work each day can have a huge impact on a child's development and confidence. Seeing a child grow in both confidence and ability, and seeing the rewards and benefit of this, is one the most enjoyable parts of being an Instructor.

To get your child started with Kumon study you will pay a one off registration fee to register them as a student
The time taken to complete a day's work may be around 30 minutes per subject. The study time is completely down to each individual and the level of the programme they are currently at.

Kumon is a self-learning programme but each student receives regular support from their Instructor. The carefully developed worksheets teach students how to find the answer for themselves, whilst their Instructor offers guidance when necessary. The key role of each Kumon Instructor is to observe their students working, making sure that work is set at the right level and that they are developing at the right pace.
Students can start learning with Kumon from age two upwards. We currently have students as young as two years old studying with us, ranging all the way up to those about to go to university; Kumon helps children of any age and any ability. The sooner children begin, the earlier they can start developing skills to gain the greatest cumulative benefit; as soon as you feel your family is ready to make the commitment to long-term study, Kumon will be ready to help you achieve your goal.
Kumon offers much more than tutoring and differs from traditional teaching in the classroom. Rather than preparing children for a particular test or assessment, Kumon empowers students to learn for themselves, through individualised instruction and carefully developed worksheets.
As well as developing key skills in maths and English, each Kumon student will work towards building their independent learning skills and confidence in their own abilities. This means that a Kumon student will not be dependent on – or limited by – the skills and knowledge of others.
As a global programme, Kumon does not follow a school curriculum, but rather is complementary to curricula across the world. The primary aim of the Kumon Method is to develop independent learning skills. These independent learning skills enhance the students’ performance right across the school curriculum. Kumon operates at exactly the right level for each student – regardless of their age – ensuring that work set extends and develops their skills, confidence and ability.
