About our centre

Welcome to Kumon Prestwich.

Kumon Prestwich offers individualised Mathematics and English study programmes designed to help children develop strong academic skills, confidence, and independent learning habits. Our centre welcomes students of all ages and abilities, supporting each child to progress at a level that is best suited to their individual needs.

Using the internationally recognised Kumon Method, students build strong foundations in Maths and English through small-step learning and consistent daily practice. This approach helps children develop concentration, accuracy, problem-solving abilities, and self-learning skills that benefit them throughout their education and beyond.

About your Instructor

My name is Sundus, and I am the Instructor at Kumon Prestwich Study Centre. I have an academic background and professional experience in Accounting, Finance, and Management, along with more than 13 years of teaching experience in both formal and informal settings. For the past three years, I have proudly been part of the Kumon journey.

My connection with Kumon began as a parent when I was looking for additional academic support for my daughter at the age of two and a half. After enrolling her at a Kumon centre, I was amazed by the effectiveness of the Kumon Method and the positive changes I saw in her confidence, independence, discipline, and love for learning.

As I learned more about the Kumon approach, I realised that its philosophy closely matched my own teaching values, which inspired me to pursue a career with Kumon. Since then, I have had the privilege of seeing students overcome challenges, build confidence, and enjoy learning in ways they never thought possible.

I am proud that many students at my centre are studying one, two, and even three years above their school grade level. Beyond academic success, I have seen the Kumon Method help children develop resilience, self-discipline, critical thinking, and independent learning skills; all of which provide a strong foundation for future success, including competitive examinations such as the 11+.

I warmly welcome all students and families to experience the benefits of the Kumon Method and to see their children grow in confidence, independence, and a lifelong love of learning.

Both, and every child in between. This is because of our individualised approach to education, which always asks the question: "What is best for this individual child?" Following a diagnostic test, a study plan is set to develop the ability of the child and to progress them beyond the Kumon International Standard (an international approximation of their school level) regardless of their starting point. Kumon welcomes students with special educational needs, gifted and talented children, and all those who believe they can achieve more and fulfil their potential.

Kumon is a self-learning programme with each student receiving regular support from their Instructor. The carefully developed worksheets teach students how to find the answer for themselves, whilst their Instructor offers guidance when necessary. The key role of each Kumon Instructor is to observe their students working, either in the centre or their online class, making sure that work is set at the right level and that they are developing at the right pace.

Kumon offers much more than tutoring and differs from traditional teaching in the classroom. Rather than preparing children for a particular test or assessment, Kumon empowers students to learn for themselves, through individualised instruction and carefully developed worksheets.

As well as developing key skills in maths and English, each Kumon student will work towards building their independent learning skills and confidence in their own abilities. This means that a Kumon student will not be dependent on – or limited by – the skills and knowledge of others.

As a global programme, Kumon does not follow a school curriculum, but rather is complementary to curricula across the world. The primary aim of the Kumon Method is to develop independent learning skills. These independent learning skills enhance the students’ performance right across the school curriculum. Kumon operates at exactly the right level for each student – regardless of their age – ensuring that work set extends and develops their skills, confidence and ability.
