Welcome to the Kumon Sheffield, Crookes Study Centre. The Sheffield, Crookes centre was established in 2005 and has been nurturing students ever since, with many of them going on to complete both the Kumon Maths and English Study Programmes. Students attend from all over South Yorkshire, with many choosing us because of our reputation for high-quality learning. Some parents are even receiving recommendations directly from local schools.

The unique Kumon Maths and English Study Programmes pursue the potential of each child by developing confident, independent learners through individualised, advanced study. Unlike the process of a traditional tuition provider, Kumon encourages students to take their learning into their own hands.

The role of the Kumon Instructor is to provide guidance, support and encouragement, allowing the student to develop their own learning strategies. The team of assistants are carefully selected and trained to offer excellent support for students and families. Many of the assistants are either Kumon students who have completed higher levels of the programme, or are high-achieving university students who are able to excellently support the students.

Many of the students at the centre have committed to Kumon study for the long term because of the positive results it has brought them. The Kumon programmes are for all ages and abilities.

About the Instructor

Sheffield Crookes - Rita Rughani

My name is Rita Rughani and I started my Kumon journey in 2005. Since then, I have been fortunate enough to welcome so many lovely families to my centre to offer them guidance and Instruction. I find it truly rewarding when I receive message of gratitude from parents of a student who has excelled as a result of their Kumon studies. It is also great to see those students who previously lacked confidence flourish and begin to enjoy learning.

It is important to me that children have a positive experience of Kumon and that their class visits are meaningful and beneficial to them. In order to achieve this, the classroom is well structured, new work is initially introduced in class and a discussion takes place between the student and I to ensure that they have understood the work before it is taken home.

As an Instructor, I believe that the success of the Kumon students relies on the partnership between parents and myself and, as such, I make sure to maintain transparent and ongoing communication to keep you aware of your child’s progress. Contact me to see how Kumon can help your child achieve their full potential.

Popular Questions

Kumon is a self-learning programme with each student receiving regular support from their Instructor. The carefully developed worksheets teach students how to find the answer for themselves, whilst their Instructor offers guidance when necessary. The key role of each Kumon Instructor is to observe their students working, either in the centre or their online class, making sure that work is set at the right level and that they are developing at the right pace.

Students can start learning with Kumon from age two upwards. We currently have students as young as two years old studying with us, ranging all the way up to those about to go to university; Kumon helps children of any age and any ability. The sooner children begin, the earlier they can start developing skills to gain the greatest cumulative benefit; as soon as you feel your family is ready to make the commitment to long-term study, Kumon will be ready to help you achieve your goal.

Kumon offers much more than tutoring and differs from traditional teaching in the classroom. Rather than preparing children for a particular test or assessment, Kumon empowers students to learn for themselves, through individualised instruction and carefully developed worksheets.

As well as developing key skills in maths and English, each Kumon student will work towards building their independent learning skills and confidence in their own abilities. This means that a Kumon student will not be dependent on – or limited by – the skills and knowledge of others.

As a global programme, Kumon does not follow a school curriculum, but rather is complementary to curricula across the world. The primary aim of the Kumon Method is to develop independent learning skills. These independent learning skills enhance the students’ performance right across the school curriculum. Kumon operates at exactly the right level for each student – regardless of their age – ensuring that work set extends and develops their skills, confidence and ability.
