Welcome to the Kumon Sloane Square Study Centre!

At Kumon Sloane Square study centre, we help children of all ages and abilities build confidence, independence, and a lifelong love of learning through personalised Maths and English programmes.

Every child’s journey begins with a free assessment, allowing us to create an individualised study plan tailored to their current ability and learning goals. Whether your child needs additional support, wants to catch up, or is ready to progress beyond their school year, our programmes encourage steady progress at a pace that is right for them.

Unlike traditional tuition, the Kumon Method is designed to develop independent learners. Through regular study and carefully structured worksheets, students strengthen their academic skills while developing resilience, concentration, and positive study habits that can benefit them throughout their education and beyond.

Our experienced team provides ongoing guidance, carefully monitors each child’s progress, and adapts their study plan as needed to ensure they remain motivated, appropriately challenged, and engaged in their learning.

We are also proud to offer KUMON CONNECT, giving families the flexibility of digital study alongside personalised support.

At Kumon Sloane Square study centre,  we are committed to helping every child reach their full potential in a welcoming, supportive, and positive learning environment.

We look forward to welcoming you and your child to our Kumon family.

Tanya Van Mullem

About your Instructor

My name is Tanya, and my Kumon journey began over 40 years ago when I became a student at my mother’s study centre, one of the first Kumon centres to open in the UK. Growing up with Kumon gave me a deep understanding of the programme and the lasting impact it can have on a child’s confidence, independence, and approach to learning.

After building a career in the hotel and events industry, I returned to Kumon Sloane Square following the birth of my son 18 years ago. Since then, I have gained extensive experience supporting students, working closely with families, and helping children develop the skills, confidence, and independence they need to progress.

Having experienced Kumon as both a student and an educator, I understand that every child learns differently. I find it incredibly rewarding to see students overcome challenges, become more independent, and recognise their own potential.

My lifelong connection with Kumon and my passion for education inspired me to take over the Kumon Sloane Square Study Centre in September 2026. I am proud to continue its legacy and look forward to welcoming families, supporting each student, and helping every child reach their full potential in Maths and English.

Frequently Asked Questions

Both, and every child in between. This is because of our individualised approach to education, which always asks the question: "What is best for this individual child?" Following a diagnostic test, a study plan is set to develop the ability of the child and to progress them beyond the Kumon International Standard (an international approximation of their school level) regardless of their starting point. Kumon welcomes students with special educational needs, gifted and talented children, and all those who believe they can achieve more and fulfil their potential.

Kumon is a self-learning programme with each student receiving regular support from their Instructor. The carefully developed worksheets teach students how to find the answer for themselves, whilst their Instructor offers guidance when necessary. The key role of each Kumon Instructor is to observe their students working, either in the centre or their online class, making sure that work is set at the right level and that they are developing at the right pace.

Kumon offers much more than tutoring and differs from traditional teaching in the classroom. Rather than preparing children for a particular test or assessment, Kumon empowers students to learn for themselves, through individualised instruction and carefully developed worksheets.

As well as developing key skills in maths and English, each Kumon student will work towards building their independent learning skills and confidence in their own abilities. This means that a Kumon student will not be dependent on – or limited by – the skills and knowledge of others.

As a global programme, Kumon does not follow a school curriculum, but rather is complementary to curricula across the world. The primary aim of the Kumon Method is to develop independent learning skills. These independent learning skills enhance the students’ performance right across the school curriculum. Kumon operates at exactly the right level for each student – regardless of their age – ensuring that work set extends and develops their skills, confidence and ability.
