“Kumon has helped me develop a love of reading. The English programme has enabled me to think outside the box, which is why, I am more independent.”

Kumon maths and English completer, Carina, joined the Lower Sydenham study centre at the age of six; “Starting Kumon as a young girl, my abilities were very limited, and I felt anxious. However, Kumon really boosted my confidence in English. My enthusiasm for learning developed, especially at school – I was eager to answer all the questions because of my Kumon experience."

Since enrolling Carina and her two siblings, her mother, Evageline, has seen Carina’s academic ability grow; “Her concentration has improved, she has a good awareness of time management and has the ability to quickly provide solutions to questions. Kumon study has also helped Carina pass her 11+ exam and secure a place at a grammar school."  Since then, Carina is now in Year 9 and is preparing for her GCSEs.

Carina adds, “Kumon has helped me develop a love of reading. The English programme has enabled me to think outside the box, which is why, I am more independent.”

In addition, Kumon study has helped Carina confidently tackle challenging work and comfortably work at an advanced level of study; “At times, the same topics that I was studying at Kumon would be taught in school. As I was already familiar with the work, I was able to excel ahead of my peers and exceed above my school grade level.“

Kumon Instructor, Lola, is extremely proud of Carina’s achievement: “She has demonstrated determination and has engaged really well with each one of her levels from the time she started. Carina should be very proud of this great achievement, just as the rest of her family and I are.”

Commenting on her overall learning experience, Carina said, “What I enjoyed most about the programmes was looking forward to feeling proud of myself when I scored 100%, or even when I was able to correct my mistakes and knowing how I could improve. Looking back, I have enjoyed seeing the progress I have made over the years.”

Well done Carina! We wish you the best of luck in your GCSEs!
