About this centre
Kumon study aims to ensure that every child develops a love for learning. We offer maths and English programmes to help students of any age and ability to progress their skills and build key foundations for learning. Traditional maths and English tuition helps students progress, but Kumon goes one step further by helping each child develop self-learning skills, enabling them to tackle challenging work without reliance on a teacher.
Students complete daily worksheet study developing ability and fluency gradually over time, progressing in small steps and building confidence. They also visit their local study centre up to twice a week for guidance from their Instructor. Your child’s Kumon Instructor will set work at just the right level to challenge and keep them engaged, regardless of age or school year. This means that they can strengthen their key skills or progress beyond school grade level without restriction. Kumon offers a cost-effective and convenient way to help your child build strong English and maths skills for a successful future.
Hi! My name is Manisha and I have been the Instructor at the Kumon Sutton Coldfield Study Centre since 2015.
I have had the privilege of having a personal experience with Kumon, having joined as a student when I was in Year 6. I lacked a lot of confidence in my ability to do maths and English and this created a barrier in me achieving my full potential.
Kumon was different from my previous tutors - it was a carefully structured daily programme designed initially to help me overcome my fear of maths and motivate me to pick up a book and enjoy reading. I began the programme on a level that was comfortable for me to complete daily, working on my speed, accuracy and focus. This repetitive method worked really well as I mastered areas that I hadn’t been able to at school and, due to my hard work and commitment within my first year at Kumon, I was working above and beyond my school grade.
Kumon enabled me to become a confident, independent individual that was no longer afraid to face challenges in my academia as well as other aspects of my life. Kumon was such an invaluable experience that I decided, after two years of being a Primary School Teacher, I wanted to become a Kumon Instructor. This career choice has changed my life and has allowed me to pass on the benefits I had gained from Kumon to children that are now in a similar position.

Kumon is a self-learning programme with each student receiving regular support from their Instructor. The carefully developed worksheets teach students how to find the answer for themselves, whilst their Instructor offers guidance when necessary. The key role of each Kumon Instructor is to observe their students working, either in the centre or their online class, making sure that work is set at the right level and that they are developing at the right pace.
Students can start learning with Kumon from age two upwards. We currently have students as young as two years old studying with us, ranging all the way up to those about to go to university; Kumon helps children of any age and any ability. The sooner children begin, the earlier they can start developing skills to gain the greatest cumulative benefit; as soon as you feel your family is ready to make the commitment to long-term study, Kumon will be ready to help you achieve your goal.
Kumon offers much more than tutoring and differs from traditional teaching in the classroom. Rather than preparing children for a particular test or assessment, Kumon empowers students to learn for themselves, through individualised instruction and carefully developed worksheets.
As well as developing key skills in maths and English, each Kumon student will work towards building their independent learning skills and confidence in their own abilities. This means that a Kumon student will not be dependent on – or limited by – the skills and knowledge of others.
As a global programme, Kumon does not follow a school curriculum, but rather is complementary to curricula across the world. The primary aim of the Kumon Method is to develop independent learning skills. These independent learning skills enhance the students’ performance right across the school curriculum. Kumon operates at exactly the right level for each student – regardless of their age – ensuring that work set extends and develops their skills, confidence and ability.
