Saturday class runs from: 649 London Rd, Westcliff-on-Sea, SS0 9PD

Our new Kumon Westcliff Study Centre is now open for enquiries and is run by the same experienced Instructor who operates the Kumon Southend Study Centre.

Located in the heart of the town we grew up in, the Kumon Westcliff Study Centre offers individualised Maths and English study programmes. With years of experience, our centre remains true to the guiding Kumon philosophy that daily self-study enables mastery of subjects and helps learners develop a deep sense of confidence and independence.

We are excited to bring over 20 years of experience from running the Kumon Southend Study Centre to this new central location in Westcliff. We are building the centre on a strong foundation, carrying forward the heritage of Kumon families in the area.

This study centre is proud to offer KUMON CONNECT. Click here for more details.

Alison Wallace

About your Instructor

My name is Alison, and I am the Instructor at the Kumon Westcliff and Kumon Southend Study Centres. With over 20 years of experience working with children and families in education, I have had the privilege of supporting hundreds of students in building strong academic foundations that last a lifetime.

As an Instructor with ‘Elite’ status within the Southend area, I am excited to now operate the Kumon Westcliff centre alongside my colleague, Jo Paic. This centre benefits from having two Kumon Instructors working with students, bringing experience from two centres while delivering the same high standards.

Both of us have seen the benefits of studying Kumon programmes through our own children, and we have personally witnessed how the Kumon Method fosters independence, resilience, and curiosity. Beyond exam preparation, the Kumon Maths and English programmes help children develop essential soft skills; from time management and self-discipline to logical thinking and comprehension, which support them not only at school, but in all areas of life.

Over the years, Kumon has built a strong reputation for supporting students in preparation for the 11+, selective school entrance examinations, SATs, GCSEs, and A-levels. We firmly believe that early intervention is the foundation of long-term academic success. By beginning their Kumon journey at a young age, students develop fluency, stamina, and advanced problem-solving skills that give them a clear advantage by the time they reach Year 6. Many of our Southend students who sit the 11+ examinations are already working confidently on GCSE-level concepts, and we are proud of our consistently strong results.

At the Kumon Westcliff Study Centre, I am committed to ensuring every child receives the same high-quality learning experience, whether they are building confidence, catching up, or seeking greater challenge, to help them reach their full potential. With Kumon’s unique method of daily, incremental learning, I believe every child can grow into a confident, capable, and self-reliant learner.

Frequently Asked Questions

Both, and every child in between. This is because of our individualised approach to education, which always asks the question: "What is best for this individual child?" Following a diagnostic test, a study plan is set to develop the ability of the child and to progress them beyond the Kumon International Standard (an international approximation of their school level) regardless of their starting point. Kumon welcomes students with special educational needs, gifted and talented children, and all those who believe they can achieve more and fulfil their potential.

Kumon is a self-learning programme with each student receiving regular support from their Instructor. The carefully developed worksheets teach students how to find the answer for themselves, whilst their Instructor offers guidance when necessary. The key role of each Kumon Instructor is to observe their students working, either in the centre or their online class, making sure that work is set at the right level and that they are developing at the right pace.

Kumon offers much more than tutoring and differs from traditional teaching in the classroom. Rather than preparing children for a particular test or assessment, Kumon empowers students to learn for themselves, through individualised instruction and carefully developed worksheets.

As well as developing key skills in maths and English, each Kumon student will work towards building their independent learning skills and confidence in their own abilities. This means that a Kumon student will not be dependent on – or limited by – the skills and knowledge of others.

As a global programme, Kumon does not follow a school curriculum, but rather is complementary to curricula across the world. The primary aim of the Kumon Method is to develop independent learning skills. These independent learning skills enhance the students’ performance right across the school curriculum. Kumon operates at exactly the right level for each student – regardless of their age – ensuring that work set extends and develops their skills, confidence and ability.
