About our centre

Since 2004, the centre has been helping students achieve success. The centre prides itself on delivering the Kumon Maths and English Programmes with proven results.

The students at the centre, who currently range from pre-school to year 11, are helped to discover their full potential and develop skills to study work not yet covered at school level. Students are encouraged to attempt work by themselves first and then are guided through the process.

In pursuit of the right study skills, the centre trains students to work independently as quickly and accurately as possible, to have absolute focus and concentration and to read instructions and examples carefully. Students are observed weekly and certain topics not yet mastered are reviewed.

Alongside the Instructor, there are at least nine staff members at each class who undergo regular training to ensure that their delivery of the Kumon programme is at its optimum. Staff at the centre are devoted to each child’s development and growth.

Similar to other tuition providers the Kumon programmes focus on essential academic skills, but we go one step further by developing a child’s independent study skills, needed for school, university, employment and other aspects of adult life.

This study centre is proud to offer KUMON CONNECT. Click here for more details.

As an Ofsted registered centre, parents can make considerable savings through various schemes.

Laura Obasi

About your Instructor

I am Laura Obasi, a mum of four children, all of whom have attended grammar schools, as well as a dedicated tutor and a Chartered Accountant.

I have been running the Kumon study centre in Woolwich since 2009, supporting thousands of students in gaining entry to excellent schools and universities.

I firmly believe that strong academic outcomes begin in primary school and are built through consistent daily study habits that develop resilience, confidence, and deep understanding. In recent years, I have worked with an increasing number of students with special educational needs, which led me to develop a dedicated SEN provision within the Kumon Woolwich study centres.

I am known for using effective strategies that help students grasp Maths and English concepts quickly, and I am passionate about helping every child succeed.

Come and try Kumon and see for yourself! Every child is smart; we just help make them smarter.

Frequently Asked Questions

Both, and every child in between. This is because of our individualised approach to education, which always asks the question: "What is best for this individual child?" Following a diagnostic test, a study plan is set to develop the ability of the child and to progress them beyond the Kumon International Standard (an international approximation of their school level) regardless of their starting point. Kumon welcomes students with special educational needs, gifted and talented children, and all those who believe they can achieve more and fulfil their potential.

Kumon is a self-learning programme with each student receiving regular support from their Instructor. The carefully developed worksheets teach students how to find the answer for themselves, whilst their Instructor offers guidance when necessary. The key role of each Kumon Instructor is to observe their students working, either in the centre or their online class, making sure that work is set at the right level and that they are developing at the right pace.

Kumon offers much more than tutoring and differs from traditional teaching in the classroom. Rather than preparing children for a particular test or assessment, Kumon empowers students to learn for themselves, through individualised instruction and carefully developed worksheets.

As well as developing key skills in maths and English, each Kumon student will work towards building their independent learning skills and confidence in their own abilities. This means that a Kumon student will not be dependent on – or limited by – the skills and knowledge of others.

As a global programme, Kumon does not follow a school curriculum, but rather is complementary to curricula across the world. The primary aim of the Kumon Method is to develop independent learning skills. These independent learning skills enhance the students’ performance right across the school curriculum. Kumon operates at exactly the right level for each student – regardless of their age – ensuring that work set extends and develops their skills, confidence and ability.
