"I find schoolwork easier to understand and complete. My mental arithmetic has improved and I can do my sums in my head."
Welcome to the Ashby-de-la-Zouch Study Centre which re-opened at the Ashby Methodist Church Hall in June 2011. The venue is situated at the centre of this historic market town, at the junction of Burton Road and Derby Road with all amenities within walking distance. The hall building is a new extension to the old Victorian church with a double entrance which makes access easy from the street at the front or from the large supermarket car park at the rear.
The hall itself is an ideal place for study, being light, airy, spacious and very quiet. It has modern wood-block flooring, French windows which open onto a patio area and a large, well-equipped kitchen which may be utilised for Kumon events. The carpeted entrance hall provides a warm and comfortable waiting area for parents who can observe the students at work through glazed doors looking into the hall without causing a distraction.
Ashby Kumon Centre offers tailored maths and English study programmes to pupils of all ages and abilities and helps them acquire a passion for lifelong learning through development of personal study skills, confidence-building and realisation of potential. Currently we have 27 students on roll with ages ranging from pre-school to 16 years. Many of the students come from the nearby villages of Leicestershire, Derbyshire and Warwickshire since Ashby is central to all of these and convenient for travel along country roads avoiding heavy rush-hour traffic.
Some students come to class twice a week on Wednesdays and Fridays and some once a week according to how it fits in with their other after-school activities.
As Kumon class remains open during the school holidays it means students can continue developing their study skills without interruption or loss of impetus and motivation. Every child is given a free assessment in order to determine his or her starting point on the Kumon programme and homework is provided to enable students to follow a daily study programme which is crucial to the Kumon Method of Learning.
