"Kumon is not always fun because it is challenging, but it is always successful provided parent, Instructor and student work in partnership."
Hello. I'm Nadine and I'm a qualified teacher with over 30 years' experience of teaching pupils of all ages ranging from pre-school to 16 years. I have been passionate about teaching since the age of 13 when I used to help in the reception class at my former primary school in Swadlincote. I have been a deputy headteacher in two schools in Somerset and Leicester and, more recently, worked as a supply teacher in Derbyshire, Leicestershire and around Leicester City.
My second passion is for drama, dance and the theatre. I have taught dance and drama in schools for most of my teaching career alongside directing many school-based productions. I was Leader of the Leicester Drama Society Youth Theatre for four years, based at The Little Theatre in Dover Street. In a former life I spent some years as a professional actress after doing a postgraduate acting course at the Academy of Live and Recorded Arts in London. Prior to that, I was able to give vent to my third passion, singing, by entering competitive festivals and playing many lead roles in well-known musicals and operas.
I love being a Kumon Instructor because the Kumon Method is something I believe in wholeheartedly. I love the fact that Kumon offers an individualised learning programme and caters for students of all ages and abilities so that they can progress at their own pace. By this I mean not only those who are having learning problems at school but also those who are able and well-motivated to progress faster than they would in school simply because teachers have limited time or the resources needed to move them on. I am also a believer in life-long learning and understand the importance of a long-term commitment to study through the daily practice of study skills. It is very rewarding to see students, whatever their age or ability, gaining in confidence, receiving achievement awards and being given a chance to 'shine'.
