"I find schoolwork easier to understand and complete. My mental arithmetic has improved and I can do my sums in my head."
Centre Location
Our Banbury Centre is located in the Stanbridge Building at Banbury School. There is ample free car parking in the school grounds.
What age should children join?
We welcome children of all ages and abilities, from three year olds to those studying GCSEs, A levels and beyond.
Our class procedure
English and maths programmes are studied in our centres with over 90% of our students studying both subjects. All our maths students complete their individual Mental Arithmetic Testing Card on each visit. These cover basic number recognition, multiplication, fraction and decimal conversions up to knowing the 19 times table, forwards, backwards and mixed!
All English students read aloud prior to starting their work. This enables them to develop skills in confidence, accuracy, phrasing and expression. There is a list of Kumon Recommended Reading Books which all students are encouraged to read at least four books from, within each level. Children then get an opportunity to write a small critical analysis of each book. We also have a small library of the Recommended Reading Books which students can borrow for two weeks at a time.
Parent communication
The majority of the staff at our Study Centres are or have been Kumon students themselves. They can be easily recognised by their Kumon uniform and name badges. We send out Individual Progress Reports every three months so you can see how your child is progressing. Newsletters and holiday forms are also issued regularly.
Motivating the student
To motivate your child to complete their work daily we have our own Membership Reward Card which once completed, the student can receive a £5.00 WHSmith Gift Voucher. The Advanced Student Roll (ASR) takes place twice during a year with a special ceremony held at the end of each year. Students are awarded with engraved plaques and certificates for their outstanding achievements. The last award ceremony saw over 150 students in our four centres receiving these awards.
