"I believe Kumon is the reason why my maths has improved, and without it I wouldn't have achieved an A in my GCSE maths and wouldn't have even attempted A-level!"

Angharad Crabtree - my Kumon journey

Angharad CrabtreeI started Kumon maths at the start of year 6, aged ten beginning at level A. I found this an unusually low level to begin on, as I was already pretty good at maths. However, I then understood why, as speeding through the first few levels gave me a lot of self-confidence and pride, helping me to work harder. The first time I repeated a section of work was on level C, when I became stuck on long multiplication as I was struggling with my 7x and 8x tables, this however was easily solved by repeats of the earlier pages of C. After I'd reached level F at the end of year 6, I decided to stop Kumon, as I thought at high school my workload would increase.

However, after a year without it, I missed Kumon, and upon reflection had realised how much it'd helped me with my maths, so decided to re-start. I was slightly disappointed when I had to start at level C again, as it had only be a year and it was unlikely that my maths ability would have receded, yet it got me back into the swing of it. I progressed quite rapidly through levels C-J, and then slowed down quite considerably as I found the levels more testing, and had more schoolwork and exams to attend to. Originally, I'd planned on quitting after I'd completed level L, but then I found out that I'd need to complete M,N&O to be officially registered as a 'completer'. It was a difficult decision to make, as I had a lot of important exams coming up, so I decided to attempt to finish the levels as quickly as I possibly could.

I'm very happy to have completed the Kumon maths programme, as it has helped me very much in my schooling and has given me more confidence in other subject's as well. For A level I'm going to do English language, English literature, Maths and further maths, as I feel very strongly about these subjects. In the future I'd like to go to university and do a degree in English, law or accountancy, and I feel Kumon has been a large contributing factor towards my ambitions and aspirations.

I would most certainly recommend Kumon to others, and when I have children, I will most certainly be enrolling them from an early age, as I have seen clear proof that it's very successful!

Words from Angharad's parents

"We're very proud of the success Angharad has achieved through Kumon. She has enjoyed completing the programme and it has been beneficial in other aspects of education and has helped her see her strengths in particular areas, allowing her easy choices for her future."

Words from Teresa Linton, Instructor

"Angharad has always been a very determined student, with a very positive attitude towards her studies. I am not surprised that Angharad has completed the programme, as she has the character and discipline to achieve anything she wants in life. I am delighted and honoured to have had involvement with Angharad through her Kumon studies, and she will continue to make a fantastic Class Assistant until she heads off to university".
