"Kumon study is the best thing I have ever done for my child Rohan. ...learning Kumon over the last 3 years Rohan has been able to think faster and has become more confident in general and progressed very well in maths."

Kumon aims to encourage independence and self-confidence, and this starts with their first visit to class when they are guided through the class routine. They will exchange their own work, complete a worksheet, take part in a supplementary activity and have a short feedback session to discuss their progress and go over any problem areas. Students also receive stickers for the week's work to attach to their membership card – but only if they have also completed their corrections!
In the separate numbers activity area, students finish a Kumon number board against the clock and go through some oral maths, such as number bonds or times tables, with an assistant. These activities will be tailored to the student's current needs and progress. Students who are studying English read aloud to the English assistant on each visit.
While the student is doing a supplementary activity, their records will be updated and their class work marked, ready for them to collect and complete any corrections before they leave. We have a special Merit Board where especially outstanding pieces of work are pinned and there are coveted "100%" stickers for class work. Visits to the Centre generally take around 30 minutes.
Most students visit us once a week, either on a Friday or a Monday, but some come twice a week – especially if they are just beginning the programme. We like to get our students off to a good start, and their work is monitored extra closely to make sure that they are progressing smoothly. An easy start point enables them to become familiar with the system – doing work everyday and completing a worksheet at a sitting - and builds their confidence and concentration from the very beginning.
A monthly Newsletter keeps students and parents up-to-date with news from the Centre and also a "Congratulations" section where the achievement of students who have passed level tests is recognised.
We aim to make a student's visit to the Centre a positive experience where they will receive encouragement and guidance to enable them to reach their full potential in their studies. |
