"Kumon study is the best thing I have ever done for my child Rohan. ...learning Kumon over the last 3 years Rohan has been able to think faster and has become more confident in general and progressed very well in maths."

About the centre

My name is Shain Bhoday and I am the Instructor at the Bexleyheath Study Centre. Visits to the centre are enjoyable and confidence boosting, with students receiving positive feedback from the me and my team of assistants during their visits.

Students drop into the study centre once or twice a week. Students are guided by an assistant to swap over their completed homework, collect their new homework and their class work for the day. Student visits last approximately 30-40 minutes and parents are welcome to wait in the waiting area.

Kumon involves a small amount of regular work each day, usually about 10-30 minutes. Each student follows an individual programme, starting at a comfortable level to build confidence and to get used to working regularly. This also gives students the opportunity to fill any gaps they may have in their knowledge and skills. Daily work helps students to develop their concentration and independent learning skills. This daily work study habit of a small amount of practice each day, using repetition until each topic area has been mastered, results in steady progress. Work is individually set by me to ensure it is the appropriate amount and the correct level of work by discussing with the parents and the children continuously.

Whilst the student is completing their classwork their homework is being checked and recorded by my team of assistants, who are on hand to provide guidance where necessary. Whilst the students' work is being marked, many students will visit an assistant for some extra supplementary work related to their study such as oral reading and/or mental maths.

My team and I see all students whilst they are in class, observe them working, discuss their progress and monitor their progress. Taking all these factors into consideration, new goals for study are set. I see each and every student after class each day so that I can assess their classwork and review the homework which has been returned. This gives me the chance to talk about their progress and goals so that I can give them appropriate feedback and praise.
