Welcome to the Blackfen, New Eltham Kumon study centre, providing maths and English programmes for students of all ages and abilities. We're open after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays (4.30pm-6pm), and on Saturday mornings (9.30am-11am). There are no set arrival times as children arrive at any convenient time on their particular day and usually stay for between 30 minutes and an hour. Students normally attend once or twice a week.
The Centre opened in 2007 and is based at Blackfen School for Girls, a popular school that encourages community use. Classes run in the air-conditioned Sixth Form Centre and there are ample car parking facilities and a pleasant, relaxing waiting area where parents can meet, exchange information and experiences, and share the success of their children as they progress through their individual programmes. Many of our current students come from the Blackfen (DA15) and New Eltham (SE9) areas, but others take advantage of our proximity to the A2's Danson Interchange and the A20 to travel to the Centre from Eltham, Welling, Erith and further afield.
Our students are aged from 3 to 15 years, from both state and independent schools. Many are now entering their third year with us, and have demonstrated considerable success at the centre and at school. Kumon study has boosted many students' self esteem, improved their concentration and developed their abilities in English and maths. At present there is a waiting list for pre-school students but you are welcome to contact me for an assessment.
Enrolment takes place at your home, when assessment helps determine where your child should start on the chosen study programme(s) before they attend class. It is vital that students begin with work that is relatively easy for them. At enrolment there is also a chance to discuss the Kumon programme in detail and find out what you and your child are hoping to achieve. I will also talk about your child's starting point and the amount of progress I would expect in the first and subsequent years of the programme. The visit usually lasts between 1-1.5 hours and is essential for you to understand exactly what Kumon is all about. Payment for the registration fee and the first month's fees are collected at this meeting with all subsequent payments being made by bank standing order.
