"I believe Kumon is the reason why my maths has improved, and without it I wouldn't have achieved an A in my GCSE maths and wouldn't have even attempted A-level!"

About the centre

Blakenhall About the Centre Boy Working

The Blakenhall Kumon Study Centre provides an enjoyable and friendly learning atmosphere in which students receive positive feedback from the Instructor and assistants at every session.

Most children attend class twice a week for approximately 30 minutes per subject. When students arrive they collect their class folders, swap their homework and give their folders to an assistant to record their homework in their progress books.

English students - Before they start they will go to the assistant to do some oral reading. After this they complete their written work independently.

Maths students - Children complete their worksheets first and whilst it is being marked they attempt the number board or do some mental arithmetic and times tables practice with an assistant.

Blakenhall About the Centre Girl at Table

Once students have done their corrections, if any, they go to see the Instructor. It is important for students to do their corrections as it ensures that each student achieves 100% before leaving and it helps to keep their motivation high.

When all the activities have been completed each student sees the Instructor to receive feedback, check on progress at class and at home. Students will also see how they are progressing and agree goals to aim for. Most importantly, students will be praised for their efforts and receive stickers to attach to their membership card. Once they have completed the membership card they will receive a prize to congratulate and encourage them in their daily study.
