"Kumon is not always fun because it is challenging, but it is always successful provided parent, Instructor and student work in partnership."
We understand at Kumon that coming into a new class can be a little daunting, that's why I will be on hand to welcome all new students and make sure they are familiar with what happens at class. The classes run on a Wednesday and Saturday and students drop in for about half an hour during a two hour given period. During this time parents are welcome to wait in the waiting area.
At class students will be swap their completed homework for new homework and will their collect their class work for the day. Students work independently at class under my careful observation or one of my trained assistants, once they have finished their work they will have their work marked by an assistant.
Whilst the student is completing their work their homework is being checked and recorded by the centre's team of assistants. Along with me, the team are on hand to provide guidance where necessary.
Once the student has completed their class work, they hand the work in to be marked. If they are studying the maths programme they will complete mental arithmetic or if they are on the English programme I or an assistant will listen to them read. There are also numberboards for students to complete.
Once the work has been marked students must correct any mistakes made. This is really important as it is a real learning opportunity for your child.
All students see me before leaving the class and I assess their class work and review the homework which has been returned. This gives me the chance to talk about their progress and goals and I can give them appropriate feedback and praise.
As motivational tools, we have a sticker system in place and students are awarded certificates every time they move up a level. There is also an Advanced Student Roll (ASR) where we celebrate students studying beyond their school level and hopefully motivate other students to aim high.
