About this centre

In-Centre Class available KUMON CONNECT available

We wish you a warm welcome to the Bristol South Study Centre, where the unique Kumon Maths and English Programmes help children reach their full potential by developing confident, independent learners through individualised, advanced study. The centre caters for students of all ages and abilities, guiding them to work independently and successfully through individualised learning programmes.

An initial assessment will determine a student’s current skill level and, together with the parents and student, a plan is made to guide the student to build on their skills, further their knowledge and excel both in and beyond the classroom.

The centre has two Instructors and an experienced team of class assistants to support children in their learning. Students are encouraged to take ownership of their learning journey, and, through encouragement, consistency and determination, we aim for every child to be studying work in advance of their school age within 6-12 months of commencement.

Did you know, you can now study Kumon using digital worksheets? This study centre is proud to offer KUMON CONNECT. Click here for more details.

About the Instructor

Vicky West - Bristol South
My name is Vicky West and I have been a Kumon Instructor since 2005. I was a Kumon student myself before going on to earn a BSc degree in Maths from the University of the West of England. I’m proud to be an Elite Kumon Instructor based on the high quality of instruction and student progress at my centres.

Being a Kumon Instructor is a rewarding and satisfying role and I love being involved in the process of educating individual students to go on to surpass not only their own but other people’s expectations of them, and achieve what they once thought was impossible.

I like to keep in regular contact with parents and carers to keep them informed of their child’s progress. We hold frequent meetings to keep parents updated and I am always available to discuss how far a child has come.

Developing confidence and fostering a love of learning in my students is my passion. Every child receives support during class and, with many years of experience of working with children, I can offer a high level of expertise in developing ability and potential in any child. I am unreserved in recommending Kumon to nurture confident, resourceful students who can go on to excel in any field they choose. I am delighted to welcome you to our centre.

Popular Questions

Kumon is a self-learning programme with each student receiving regular support from their Instructor. The carefully developed worksheets teach students how to find the answer for themselves, whilst their Instructor offers guidance when necessary. The key role of each Kumon Instructor is to observe their students working, either in the centre or their online class, making sure that work is set at the right level and that they are developing at the right pace.

Students can start learning with Kumon from age two upwards. We currently have students as young as two years old studying with us, ranging all the way up to those about to go to university; Kumon helps children of any age and any ability. The sooner children begin, the earlier they can start developing skills to gain the greatest cumulative benefit; as soon as you feel your family is ready to make the commitment to long-term study, Kumon will be ready to help you achieve your goal.

Kumon offers much more than tutoring and differs from traditional teaching in the classroom. Rather than preparing children for a particular test or assessment, Kumon empowers students to learn for themselves, through individualised instruction and carefully developed worksheets.

As well as developing key skills in maths and English, each Kumon student will work towards building their independent learning skills and confidence in their own abilities. This means that a Kumon student will not be dependent on – or limited by – the skills and knowledge of others.

As a global programme, Kumon does not follow a school curriculum, but rather is complementary to curricula across the world. The primary aim of the Kumon Method is to develop independent learning skills. These independent learning skills enhance the students’ performance right across the school curriculum. Kumon operates at exactly the right level for each student – regardless of their age – ensuring that work set extends and develops their skills, confidence and ability.
